microscope slide pins

Hi all! I went to the regionals in Providence RI and one of the demonstrators did a microscope slide pin. Is anyone familiar with this? I've seen microscope slides for necklaces, but for some reason I don't think the same method was used. I'm trying to recreate it, but think I'm missing a step. I was wondering if anyone can help me with this? Thanks...BethS.

Beth, I just got one of the pins as a gift from my upline yesterday.. What do you think you are missing? I've never done it, but looking at mine, from bottom to top, it's a slide, mulberry, stamped image (either driectly onto the top slide with staz-on or onto acetate transparency) then the top slide, it's all held to gether with sticky strip and ours have microbeads around the outside too. I think that covers it.. I just ordered a box of slides today!

I hope that helps a bit!

I don't know exactly what they're called but they are the ones with the little twist closure, you stick the pin into the little lock, and twist and it won't open.. I feel like a dope for not knowing what they're called, but they're in the beading and jewelry findings section of the craft stores. adhered with crystal effects.

Look at some of these web sites. Most of them are using a soldering iron and solder for pins except the last one. I do stained glass and would attach it with the solder myself but thats another added expense to get into and you have to make sure its lead free solder.
I made similar pendants but never using the microscope slides, I cut my own glass.
The one that has wrapped wire around it was doable for a necklace.
Well, I was just taking a break from cross-stitching and thought Id look these up so I hope it helps you out. My neck has had its break so I better get back to stitching.

Doh! I was missing the mulberry! Thanks so much Becky and everyone else too. I ordered my slides from cbd.com. It's a Christian book store site. Once you log onto the site, got to the section that says Homeschool, then click on Science and they're right there. Thanks again! BethS.
