Making seals
 

I want to make some faux seals with hot glue, also with Utee..I want to experiement with both techniques. Can anyone tell me what they use to make these on. What type of surface can I experiment on so it doesn't ruin my desk? LOL I want to melt the pieces and be able to peel them away and attach..is ther an easy way?

Making Memories or Creating Keepsakes had a three page article in the recent edition. They recommended using clay. Eighter Sculply, or air dry.

what I have done to make these is to punch out a circle, put 3 layers of regular EP (I usually use copper) and then stamp while hot. It's worked for me, but they turned out as a perfect circle and you probably don't want that if you truly want it to look like a seal.

The Ranger people sell a non-stick sheet to do this sort of thing on but it is $10. I bought a $3 Telfon cookie sheet. Works fine.

I used the method talked about above to do seals for our AWANA kids (was part of a lesson). I used one of my microwave safe glass plates, and that worked fine. I squirted the hot glue onto the plate, had the kids ink up their stamp with versamark, and then when they popped out the stamp I had them dust it with the pearl ex color of their choice. They were a huge sucess and most of the kids still have them.

Just wanted to give this method a great thumbs up!

A pane of glass is the best surface, since you can peel or scrap almost anything off it, and it is pretty heat resistant. I use a 1/4 - 1/2 inch thick piece that has soft edges. So you dont run the chance in cutting yourself.

You can also find glue sticks in colors and metallics and those work well too. the pearl ex offers more variety tho. and you can mix the colors if you like.

I use one of my pyrex baking dish lids for the "hot glue" seals...works great! And the pearl-ex looks gorgeous...I have found that the darker shades look best. I used the duo red/blue recently, and had to really coat the "seal" so that it didn't look like glue.

Well I don't know if it is too late, but I just saw a hot glue gun "trivet" at Michael's today that looked like it was perfect for this and it was $4. In fact, it showed the gun drizzle being pulled up. It looked like a faux seal. It was in with the hot glue sticks.

I read that you were going to give it a try today. Did you have a chance to do so? If so, which technique did you end up going with?

I have not tried this yet myself but saw someplace about using UTEE. They said to put tablespoon of UTEE on a foil lined cookie sheet. Do as many piles as you'd like. Put in a 200 degree oven and take out just as they start to melt. Once cooled, pop them off and use later for whatever. I imagine you would slightly reheat with a heat gun and stamp your image . Color as desired. I think I originally saw this as a way to make your own page pebbles.

I'm going to try that! I just bought big jars of clear and black UTEE. And...I was in the craft store this evening, and they (I can't remember which company...) had a pkg. of 4 "Faux Seals" for almost $5.00! They were BARELY brushed in the centers with a little gold paint. So not worth the $! Especially, when we can make our own with the images we choose. :D

I did play last night....I was having so much fun didn't realize it was 2:30am! LOL I used the Ranger heat resistant sheet. Wow..why didn't I buy this sooner!?!? I loved it. I had some coloured glue sticks so I did some christmas seals in silver and some snowflake ones in a pearl colour. I rubbed them with some metallic rub ons. I wasn't brave enough to pull out the pearl-ex....yet! I also did some Utee experimenting. I punched out some circles and Utee'd them 3 times getting a nice thick coat ant then stamped into them before cooling. Aranged three together on a card to resemble ornaments. Did one set with "Ho Ho Ho" turned out very cute too.

No, I haven't been brave enough to post in the gallery. I often don't always use stampin up stamps. One day I'll bite the bullet and scan them in :)

Truthfully Jo... Most of my stamps are NOT Stampin Up! . The only reason I have not posted anything is because I do not own a digital camera or scanner.
