Making Envelopes
 

Does anyone have a special technique for making envelopes for cards when you don't have a score pal or a template for envelopes? I have a ton of cards I'm boxing and sending to my daughter but I need envelopes. They are odd sized so I need to make them. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I've also become very fond of the envelope maker/template that comes with the Martha Stewart Scoreboard. It is very easy to use for quite a few standard size envelopes.

I've had a lot of fun making envelopes using up all those stacks of pattern paper I'm never going to use on cards. I put the pattern inside and the envelopes turn out really cute.

fold some cardstock, then use a different print on the cover cardstock. =)

Here is another great, easy fun tutorial from Inkstains. You can use up your pattern paper and make really cute lined envelopes from plain white or ivory ones:

When I've made a set of notecards, I line the envelopes to match the cards. It blows people away, and it's so simple to do.:)

I agree with you Bugga about lining the envelopes. It's a really nice touch!

That is a great idea, I need to try it.

Ladies......Be careful when using the Martha Stewart envelope maker included with her scoring board. You will end up with envelopes too large for the A2 of A7 card. Same goes with the purple envelope maker also. These are based on European measurements so they end up too large for us in the US.

I like to use the Scor-Pal to make my envelopes. They come out the right size each time. Corner round the edges and line the envelopes for a professional touch.

Patti, you are right about the Martha Stewart envelope maker. I found out the envies were a little large when I first made a few. The fine print says they are sized for "dimensional cards."

I found this tutorial which has different measurements for using the MS board to make standard A2 size envies. You start with the same paper size, 8-1/2 x 8-1/2, but your score lines are 3-1/8 and 3-3/4. This turns out like a regular invitation size envie. Here is a link to the tutorial:

buggainok......That's why I like the Scor-Pal board best (I have both). I can adjust my envelope to what ever size I want. I want the envelope to fit the card. I don't overload my cards with extra layers or embellishments.

I go to Sam's club and buy the cheap stack of white cardstock paper for like $7.50 for 250 sheets. That will make 250 envelopes! This is especially good to use because it is stronger and goes through the mail so much easier if you have a small bow or brads, etc. I use the Martha Stewart score board directions and cut all that paper into an 8.5 inch square.

Use really good tape (I order mine from Las Vegas stamps) - like the red liner but easier to handle. Tape down the bottom with whatever you want and put the red liner or other good strong tape on the top for sealing later.

Suggestion......If you use a heavier cardstock for your handmade envelope there wouldn't be need for you to put the extra waste paper in to cover your heavy, large embellishments for mailing.

Want a free tip? Go to stores that sell wall paper. They usually give their old books away and I use that paper for envys.

I have the MS Scoreboard but I never made an envelope with it, lol. I had the Scor-Pal but it was always a big fail to making envelopes. Blame the user on that one. I am dyslexic with numbers. I love the InkStain's envelope tutorial. I will never make envelopes a different way again. :)Thank you Bugga for sharing it. I subscribe to her blog and never seen this. I am currently reading her book right now. It's on my reading pile pouting. I didn't get time to read today.
