Default Help! treating wooden blocks

I tried to treat my wood blocks for the first time the other day and I really messed them up. I sprayed them with Matte clear finish and they stuck to the newspaper under them (I only sprayed the tops and sides, not the bottoms yet). I can't get the newspaper all the way off. Is there a better way to do this and does anyone have any suggestions for getting the newspaper off? Please help!

Thanks

Use sandpaper to get the newspaper off. When you are going to spray the blocks, balance them on top of some empty soup cans or even large stone from the driveway. Anything solid won't get stuck to the wood.

Wood blocks can also be sealed with gesso. I prefer Liquitex, though I'm pretty sure Golden has one as well.

You can try wax paper, or I set them on a block of old wood. They dry real fast.
