Lunch Box How To???
 

I am lost on how to perfectly cut the paper for the lid and sides on those adorable lunch box tins. Also what the heck are you all using to adhere the paper to the tin, are you spraying it with something when all done so it does not get ruined with use?
:confused: Yikes... Please someone help me I am dying to make one of these.

Me too!!! I've asked on several occasions how to adhere the paper, but haven't gotten a response. If anyone can tell me, I'd love to know. Do you use carpet tape, regular tape, mod pog or what??? Thanks -- I'm also so anxious to make some of these but don't know how.

I haven't actually done one yet, but I have seen Mod Podge mentioned quite often when the lunch box how tos have been discussed.

I did a search for how to's on this topic but I came up empty handed....do you know where you found that discussion?

I have mod podged all of mine. I have done 4 so far. I painted the top of one. Did paper for the top of the second (this was a total PITA), and the last two I just sanded the edges and made it look rough and put primas on top. I'll attach that pic.

I made my first lunch box tin last night.

I made a template for all the tricky pieces first, by using computer paper.

I adhered the paper to the tin using my Xyron.

I used mod podge over the entire thing! FIrst to adhere, then to "seal" it so the paper doesn't get "dirty" or torn. I'm using mine as a purse! Found wallets at WalMart that are Regal Rose and match the ribbon/paper perfectly!! The checker at WalMart took a class flyer too!

My Tin

In case you do not have access to the forums that Waterpixie posted (SU Demo only), it was also mentioned that if you want to use Modpodge as a protective coating, you need to also use it to adhere the paper.
If you use the super sticky tape to adhere the paper and then modpodge over the paper some people report that the paper will buckle and bubble up.
Royal Coat Decoupage made by Plaid (found at Walmart?) was also mentioned if you prefer a more satin finish.

I did the same thing. I didn't know it was for Demos only. My daughter just made about 4 of these. She used Mod Podge. She painted her tops and like the bottom edges with acrylic paint. She did a couple using Folk Art paint. She had some problems with this. She also used AMERICANA paint and it worked really nice. She said that would be the only kind she used from now on. She made some really pretty ones using the new spring papers. I am anxious to make me one.

I just made my first one last night, too!! Very cool! I used a product called "Multi Podge" made by Multicrafts Canada - it was also a matte finish. I assumed this would be similar to a mod podged look - but was pleasantly surprised....this product dried and you couldn't even tell there was ANYTHING on there. It stuck great. I find the matte mod podge still has some "shine" to it, and it's hard to get rid of those brush marks. So I am very happy with the end result! HTH

How did you get the paper cut out perfectly to fit around the handles?

Melly, I am having the same issue with the lid. I went to gallery, then to Anything but a card, then to templates. Some really nice person posted the template for the lid!! I am going to try it and see. The craft store here in my town told me just to use glue dots to hold the paper, but I can see how that may not hold up to use.

I used sticky tape to adhere the paper to the lid, and I used the template that was posted in another forum (that I think "kagove" is referring to). I am trying to do another one with paint, but am unfamiliar with Modge Podge. I will have to check it out. Do they have it at Michaels?

all the craft stores carry it. WalMart has it in their craft section too...

For the lid, I have a McGill oval punch that works really great for the holes around the handles! I had touble with the suposted template for some reason, so I started from scratch. I use the large SU! corner rounder for the edges.

I used sticky tape and so far it has worked. I would put it at the edges though. Ok now where do we find the template for the lid?

I would also love a templete too!! :}

I used double sided tape for mine.
and mod podged over top where papers met, so create a good seal.
