Dangling legs etc. tutorial

I don't know what it is called but I am looking for a video on how to cut out part of an image with your nesties and cut the other part with scissors. Like for instance if you have a circle nestie maybe she is sitting on the bottom of the nestie with her legs free of the nestie. I know this is not making much sense but if anyone can help I would appreciate it I have done this before but it has been a long time ago and I want a refresher! Thanks
