Default Have you ever stamped on the ceiling?

I saw a magazine where someone had painted their kitchen red and wallpapered their ceiling in a red toile print. I was wondering if I could do something similar on my kitchen ceiling with the damask stamp. I've never really stamped on my walls, let alone my ceiling.

Has anyone ever done this? What did you use for paint or did you use craft pads? Any other tips?

TIA!

*Maybe you could, but not me! I would say that's a TALL order. Too many trips up and down the ladder with old age setting in.
*I have heard that the "Tulip Brand" craft paints work well for stamping. I think you put the paint onto the stamp with a brayer.
*HINT: Try out the technique on a scrap piece of wallboard or plywood first.

The first thing that jumps to my mind is "is your ceiling textured" and if it is are you going to cover it with something smooth before stamping? I think it could be done but for me the prep work wouldn't be worth it LOL

karinlm, that is what I'm thinking. It is texured, but since it's such a long way up there , maybe I could get away with the imperfections? I'm going to stamp a pattern on some large pieces of paper or tag board and pin it up there to see if I even like it before I go too crazy.

Good luck! And let us know how it turns out. Personally, I can even imagine climbing the ladder, lifting my arms and craning my neck enough to stamp my whole kitchen ceiling.

Talking stamping

I have stamped a border on my walls with roses in winter using our craft inks. They haven't faded at all (1 year). I know SU doesn't recommend it, but I don't always follow directions

I would think you could get away with stamping the ceiling if you were using a foam stamp. The foam has a lot more give in it than rubber.

I've done a fair bit on walls, but having seen that lovely stamping spread in Martha Stewarts magazine that went from a headboard, to wall and lamp...I've been thinking about starting at a ceiling point in the bathroom with cascades down to a mirror and towel rack.

All that being said, I've used only acrylic paint. It's easy to work with and can easily be wiped away if the stamp slips while working. I keep several artist brushes on my plate of paint so I can fill in were necessary. I use one of those little sponge/throw away brushes to apply the paint to the stamp. If the stamp starts to looks "messy with paint", it is good to take time to clean it. Although you can get a fair bit of stamping done before that point.

I also use the artist brushes to streak other colors of paint onto the stamp for a more varied look in color (When I stamp pinecones I use 3 shades of brown).

Have fun with your project!
