I need instructions on how to do them!! My awesome secret sister sent me some stuff to do them. I have always wanted to but never have. Now my dilemna is I don't have a fan club membership (not that I don't want one but I absolutely can't afford it) I can't get into the gallery to see how to make them. WAAAAAAAAAAA!!
My stuff is just sitting there. I'm going nuts 'cause I can't make them. Somebody that has made them please walk me through it!! Thanks a million!!
I believe you are talking about the beaded RSVP pens? Well, I just went to this awesome event this weekend and saw them demonstrated. I have never attempted them yet but plan too. It looks pretty simple.
They used Avery return address labels and stamped on it or you can use scrapbook paper. Adhere to the outside of the pen. Then use the red sticky tape and roll it on top of the label/paper around the pen at an angle. (Similar angle to a candy cane stripe). Then roll in the beads and press to secure! It seemed that simple and looks awesome!
I use the Pentel RSVP pens. Take Sticker paper (kind you can makes stickers out of. and measure 3 1/4 X 1 1/4 and then stamp and peel the backing off and adhere to pen then cover with Terrifically Tacky tape, then I heat the tape up with my heat tool and then I put my beads in an oblong plastic container and just roll and "mush" the micro marbles onto the tape and your done! Easy and fun! HTH!
Go to my gallery and see my pens if you have questions, my e-mail address is there and you can ask me. I also have a picture of the address labels, the pens, and other stuff youneed, just e-mail me and I would be happy to send them to you.
What you need:
Stamps RSVP pens. (I get mine at Wal-Mart 2 for 97 cents) Some people get them in bulk
at www.viking.com Blank address labels Tacky tape Micro beads (I got mine at Michaels or Joann's) you get two containers for $1.99) (I made 12 pens with two containers of beads)
Directions: 1. Take the address label and cut it to 3 1/4 X 1 1/2 2. Stamp on the address label 3. Wrap the address label around the barrel of the pen 4. Wrap tacky tape around the barrel over the address label. (I used the widest tape, I ended up cutting three separate pieces and wrapping those. Some people use the tacky tape sheets and cut them to size) 5. Pour the beads in a flat container. (I used a Tupperware rectangle container, it works great 6. Heat the tape with the heat gun, I found that if you heat the tacky tape up a little the beads stick WAY better and they don't fall off. 7. Roll the pen in the beads. 8. Let the pen sit overnight or for a few hours to cure. 9. Put some crystal effects or diamond glaze on the beads just to make sure they don't fall off. The first couple I made the beads started to fall off. Adding the diamond glaze, no beads have fallen off. Put the diamond glaze or crystal effects directly on the pen and rub it in with your fingers. You have to do it lightly so that the beads don't fall off.(I attached a scan of the pen
drying after you put the CE or diamond glaze on)
It is very important not to touch the tacky tape or the beads with your hands because of the natural oils in your skin it tends to make the beads not stick.

do the micro beads have holes through them? are you suppose to use the ones from SU or can they be found at Michaels? I looked last w/e and wasnt sure on which type of beads to buy... so I left empty handed.
I've made lots of these pens, and haven't had problems with beads falling off. There's a little detail I learned from QueenPennywise at PennywiseArts.com where I buy my beads and tape that I think makes the difference.
Between step 7 and step 8: as you roll the pens in the beads, really mush the beads into the tape. After I get the first layer on, I put the pen in a baggie with some beads and really rub the beads into the pen. Then I take the pen out of the baggie and roll it between my hands for several minutes to warm the adhesive. Finally, I use my brayer to flatten the beads into the tape. It takes a few extra minutes to do all that, but I don't use crystal effects, and haven't had a problem with lost beads.
Good luck and beware, these too are addictive. You'll want a pen to match everything !

Microbeads don't have holes. They're really more like glass glitter. They come in several sizes - the most common are just called "microbeads". Then there are "mini microbeads" (even smaller) and "ultrafine microbeads" (kind of like glass dust). Each size lends a different effect. They are all beautiful. The regular ones refract the most light, so are more obvious and require a larger, more colorful design underneath to show through. The ultrafine make the finished project look very rich - reminds me of the look of silk velvet. I love 'em all, and choose the size I use to best fit the project.
I've given away my last few examples without posting them. I'll try to get some into my gallery in the next few days.
