Lining up letters
Years ago, on another forum, someone told me a great trick to getting Thickers to line up perfectly before you stick them down on your project.
It involved wax paper, and kind of putting them halfway onto the wax paper and then gently letting them down on the project. Pretty sure there was a ruler involved. LOL Does anyone know this trick? I sure could use a refresher! thanks! <style></style> |
What you said about the wax paper - yes. You can sub out an acrylic ruler since it has markings on it to help you space out your letters and rulers are usually stiff which will make it easier to transport your letters to your project. But yes - you just put part of the letter onto the paper/ruler and get your spacing arranged. Then you should be able to pick it up the whole thing and transfer it to over your project. You'll touch the exposed part of the letter and attach the letters to your project then peel the wax paper/ruler away from the rest of the letter so you can attach that part. I know I have seen Jennifer McGuire do this on projects before but I can't seem to find the exact video. Hopefully someone on here has done it, as well, and will be able to provide you with photos or a video. |

Another option is to lay them out on your table and put a piece of purple tape over the whole word and pick it up as one piece. Add your adhesive, place the letters as one word and once it is dry pull off the purple tape.

I line mine up on the edge of a Post-It note.

I googled purple tape and found the brand iCraft, but I would think any low tack tape would work.

Holy cats, Amazon has about 10 different purple tapes. I got the cheapest, around $6 for lots of it. I had blue removable tape but thought maybe purple works differently. We would have made good scientists, always trying new stuff and new techniques, looking for perfection.

Jennifer McGuire's secret was using Press n Seal...works really well.

I use Glad Press and Seal. Line them up with a ruler, push them down lightly (face down) add glue if needed, flip and press onto card. Works for words or individual letters.

I doubt we really get get our letters "exactly" lined up liked we'd like them to do every time. It's been exhausting trying. So now I've arrived at the lofty conclusion that my cards are hand made and any non perfection (within reason) is just part of the charm of a hand made card! Keeps my frustration in check. OR, I simply make the letters wonky on purpose...more whimsical and fun! However, I still use the purple low tack tape or Press n seal....both work pretty well. Still have to get those letters lined up and spaced evenly on the tape though! Always a challenge.. |
