Altering Wooden Letter
My daughter wanted an altered wooden letter for her room,
so I picked up an "A".
It's made of MDF and covered in a white primer.
How do I go about altering it? Paint? I'd like to try patterned
papers, but how to attach them? Mod Podge? Do I seal, and with what?
Does anyone have any instructions or pictures? I thought I had
an idea on how to do it- until I got home and looked at it, then I got cold feet!
Alexandra says thank you in advance!
Karen.

I flip the letter on to my patterned paper, cut it out, put modge podge on the letter and the paper and then lay the paper on to the letter. I also seal it with Modge podge as well.
yes!! that is what I do, too!! there are several samples in my gallery.
first, I cut out a piece of paper that is slightly larger than the letter. next, cover the letter with a very light coat of modge podge (very light) put the paper on top with the patterned side up. wait for it to dry, then trim around with an exacto knife...doesn't have to be really close. after that, take some fine sand paper and sand the edges. that will smooth the paper off, without having to worry about scratching the paper or anything. coat the paper with modge podge again. i usually do two more light coats. i like to line the inside and outside of my letters with coordinating ribbon....it hides the edges, and gives it a more interesting look. then, decorate as desired. one nice thing -- the decorations cover up any boo boos ;) if you have a michael's close by, they sell really cute wooden decorations that are about the size of a quarter (and they are 25 cents each) there are TONS at the one near me.

Thanks!
Wow, thanks so much to both of you!
I never would have thought of the ribbon on the inside. Makes it look
really finished, and thanks so much for the examples- it really helps.
Loved that sig when I saw it (not my own invention, got it online somewhere, but I loved it too!), I'm an old Trek fan that thinks Pooh is rather special too.
Live long and prosper!
