Question I need help with Brayer Technique....

I purchased a hard rubber brayer and have tried several attempts at putting spectrum ink on glossy paper. The effect is very vibrant which is fine but I would like the colors to be softer and with less of a definition line between the colors. What can I do? I have tried wiping off excess, using less ink...but I'm thinking that maybe my brayer is wrong. Should I have purchased a soft rubber one or perhaps something else? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!!

When I brayer with especially my spectrum pad onto glossy paper, I ink up brayer real good then when I apply it to the glossy, just continue to roll it back and forth for the colors to start blending. May take about 15-30 seconds of continuous rolling. Longer than you'd think. I used to have the same problem of defined lines btn colors but my demo said to continue the rolling back and forth for longer period of time than I was doing. Make sure you don't stack them (several done at one time) immediately after you're finished. They will start to bleed a bit until dry. Hope this helps.

I use a soft rubber brayer but the same idea may work for you. Try moving it just slightly from side to side while rolling so it blends better. Continue going back and forth like music1 mentioned in her post.
