image transfer
I am trying to do an image transfer into my altered book. In my class we were told to use Great White image/photo paper (Matte finish) and we could buy it at Wal Marts....not finding it. I checked on line no luck. I have the medium matte finish but no paper. Any suggestions on how to do this I am open to any ideas or suggestions. Thank you fellow stampers. Sharon

I've done really cool image transfers by photocopying an image onto plain white paper. Then brush a thin coat of gel medium (I use Golden brand, bought at an art supply store) over the whole thing. When it's dry, brush another layer, but make sure you do it at a different angle from the first, to minimize the brush marks. Repeat this 5 or 6 times. When it is fully dry, you can soak it in water and gently rub the paper backing off, leaving a translucent plastic images that can be glued into your book. It takes awhile but it's very pretty! You can color the photocopy with colored pencils or pastels, too. I haven't tried it with a stamped image, but I don't see why that wouldn't work.

I've been reading books about altered art techniques, and the one that looks easy for me at least is where you use packing tape, placed over the image (or part that you want to transfer), rub all over well, then soak in water until paper dissolves and washes off. When you dab off the water, the tape is still sticky, and you can stick in in your book. It looked cool in the books I read, but I haven't had the chance to try it yet. No fancy materials, though, which appeals to me. :)
