Ideas for using CDs or DVDs?

I need HELP from all you super crafty folks! I have a number of CDs and DVDs that got messed up in the "burning" process --- rather than trashing them (or stomping them into the ground in frustration) I am looking for ideas to recycle them into crafty things!

I have heard that the "bind-it-all" will punch holes into CD/DVDs. Has anyone tried this? Does anyone have any examples of "albums" that they have made?

Any "stamp-tastic" coasters out there?

Any other cool ideas floating around?

*I have tried searching for these ideas in the gallery but I find lots of great ideas for CD/DVD holders but not for the CD/DVDs themselves -- or did I somehow miss them???*

Thanks -- Stacy

I make deco for my local hospital rooms during holliday season to brighten a little bit the life of patients who have to say there for Christmas.
Crop-a-dile will punch through CD/DVD. You can then attach them with ribbon or jump ring and make cute albums... I have made a lot of Christmas deco on them using mod podge with old christmas cards, christmas napkins, colored tissue paper crumpled and christmas stamps.... Also for Easter or Valentine, Halloween theme etc.... Hope it helps.
By the way, you can do same with old 45 records. Someone gave me about 100 of them. You see, I have lot of work ahead of me.

Here's a card I made using one of those CDs a certain online company used to mail out constantly:

I used a hot knife to cut it, but would recommend cutting on the back side next time (craft and learn!).

The original intent was to use the CD with rockabella and the sentiment 'You Rock', but I didn't have that image at the time.

Here is a little memo board/photo holder I made using a CD: http://indyemmert.blogspot.com/2008/...ned-paper.html
I think you would have to look in the Anything But a Card section of the gallery.

i've done cd albums. don't have pictures, though.
basically, i trace the shape of a cd onto patterned paper and use that shape as my base for a scrapbook page. make sense?
i've got loads of old cd's that died or were sent by that online company. so i'm always looking for ways to use them.

Our kids glued 2 CD's together shiny side out, then cut out felt fins etc. and glued on wiggly eye and made a fish. This goes with the children's book "Rainbow Fish". I have seen people hang cd's in trees and shrubs to keep the birds away also.

I made a color wheel with each color family, divided the cd, like a pie, into 12ths and cut triangles out of cs (generally could and can be done out of scraps). Applied to the disc with crystal effects and then used a black stamping journaler as to which color it is around the outside wider edge of the cd with the color family listed on a white cardstock circle punched out and placed in the center (I punch out the small hole as well to hang them on my peg board by the scissors/etc or bind them up with a nice piece of ribbon to hang). I also did it in sixths for the in colors and for the neutrals. It is a nice little heavy weight reference at my work station so that if I need a certain color or trying to match something to a photo etc, I can do so with out getting the big wheel (mine does not seem to have the exact coloring maybe because it is glossy?) or going to the stacks of paper.

Coasters from CDs

I've made fabric covered coasters with them. I pad the top with a circle of polyester batting, cut a circle of fabric about 2" larger in diameter than the CD. I do a running stitch around the edge of the fabric, cover the CD (an batting) and pull tight on the wrong side (sort of like making a yoyo). I glue on some rickrack around the edge on the underside so that it just peaks out on the top and then I cover the underside with a circle of fabric cut just a smidge smaller than the CD. Before I glue the circle to the underside, I dab Fraycheck on the cut edge so that it doesn't fray.

Here is a card I did with a cd..... I used alcohol inks to color the shiny side and used the crop-a-dile to punch a hole and adhere the fiber and coins.

Hmmmmm......it wasn't the most impressive scan.......the paper behind the CD is silver and the colors on the CD show much bright IRL>

i made an altered cd album for my son and was very pleased with it. there are pictures of it in my gallery. if you decide to do this i do advise that after you attach the paper you sand and ink the edges. it gave the album a much more finished look.
