i am not sure if i should post here or not....

i have a dilema, my daughter came to ask me to make her wedding invites (a year away....) she wants them embossed...(i am not very good at it) i think the pencil over it a good/easy technique except it is done on dark paper....

any ideas on how to go about this, she wants some embossed paper on top of the written invite (like a cover kind of thing) she just wants the invite on one page not like a regular card.

i am at a loss, and i don't want to tell her i can't make her invites :(

Do you mean you stamp the image and then go from behind and write over the image therefore raising it and making it 3D? The only embossing I know is using the powder and heating it up unless you have an embossing punch.

what i mean is she wants like vellum on top of the invite embossed.

i thought i could do the pencil over technique work, except it is done on dark paper i don't think that would look good on a wedding invite?

i guess the only way to make it work would be to dry emboss the vellum?

any ideas?

the invite sounds simple except i don't know how to go about the vellum being embossed, because i have never done embossing and make it look pretty....

There are two separate embossing techniques.

Raised embossing uses a brass stencil and a stylus to raise the pattern.

In the second techinque, the card is stamped with Versamark, embossing powder is sprinkled on top and then heated using a heat gun. The heat causes the powder to melt and puff up. With metalic powders, a high shine is achieved giving the look of giold or silver leafing.

Forgot--if doing the stencil embossing, run your stylus over a candle. This helps the stylus slide over the paper more easily.

I've never tried stencil embossing on vellum and it may not work since vellum is less flexible than regular cardstock. You may end up with crease marks rather than the smooth, puffed look.

can you do the heated embossing on vellum?

yes, you can heat emboss on vellum, I have had the best luck when using vellum card stock rather then regular vellum, if you use regular vellum you have to be careful not to get it too hot. SU sells the most wonderful vellum card stock that holds up great with embossing.
You might be able to search in the gallery for invites similar to what you are talking about, I have seen many one sheet invites in the gallery..Just type in a search. I tried a few different combos, wedding invites, wedding cards, etc.

Couldn't you just buy the embossed vellum? There are some beautiful designs out there.
