I used baby oil to get the gunk off my unmounted stamp. Bad?

I know Goo Gone works quickly and well, but I hate using it.

On the stamps I've unmounted, most have come off cleanly, but today I had one that was just a gunky mess. Unwilling to resort to Goo Gone, I tried some baby oil and it worked pretty well. I then gave the stamp a bath in water and dish soap to remove all the oil.

Was using baby (mineral) oil on the stamp to remove the glue a bad thing to do? Will it hurt my stamps?

Tried to research this on the internet, and didn't find anything. Lots about using various oils to get "sticker glue" off other things, but nothing about rubber stamps.

From what I remember of chemistry, as long as you washed it all off & don't do it a lot to hard rubber, you should be fine.

I'd say baby oil would be fine, plus you've washed all the residue off & dried it well. To be honest. if its gentle enough to go on a babys skin, its not going to do any harm to anything, I think. The only reason you are normally told not to use oils with rubber, is that most oils are petroleum based, and eventually the oil will break down the rubber. Mineral oil is a different chemical compound.

Thanks! It doesn't work in all cases, depends what's left when I pull off the stamp, but sometimes it seems to really do the trick, and I like that it's so innocuous.
