How To... Wax?
 

I'm using Cosmic Shimmer Gilding wax, and I'm using it on a metal key. It looks great on the key, but even 3 days later, light handling causes the gild to wear off onto anything it touches.

So wondering what is the best way to seal this? Or should I switch to a different gild? I also have Viva Decor Gilding Wax which seems to stay on much better. So I can switch, but did love the finish of the Cosmic Shimmer. :)

I just did a bit of Googling on this, mainly because I have a whole bunch in a drawer I was gifted from a crafter who was giving up papercrafts, so I was curious how useful it would actually be.
Not liking what I'm reading so far- lot of crafters saying it's a very poor product, goes hard in the pots, lots of people not liking the finish, and so on. I haven't read to the end, so there may be help for your question, but just from what I've seen, it looks like it would need some sealer sprayed on to make it permanent.

I read similar when I first bought them. However, what I learned as I read more, was that almost all the complaints were from back when the product was new.

Originally the first few batches were going hard, cracking, and not giving much coverage.

However, Creative Expressions solved this by putting a lid with a film on it to make the jars more air-tight, and adding turpentine to the jars. Now it seems people love them. I really like the colors and the finish is striking on the jars I bought. I can only compare them to the Inka Golds and some of the local gilding waxes I bought. It is a more firm texture than the Inka Golds and feels like more of a wax whereas the IG feels more creamy. I would use for different purposes no doubt due to this. Thanks, I'll try a sealer spray. Hoping that works. :)

Keeping my fingers crossed then! Like I said, I was gifted mine, probably about a dozen pots, and I honestly think most are unopened. So hopefully, they will be usable. An about to try them for the fist time later this week, on an altered book cover I've done, first try at that sort of thing, so we'll see how they do.
I can see why they added the turpentine, as that seemed to be the advice they were giving people who had problems.
