Default Zagged Newsprint technique??

Does anyone know how to do this? I saw a picture of this, and would love to do it.

If I could remember where I saw it! lol

Old newsprint was used and it was cut in strips... but not so that the print was horizontal. It was cut on a diagonal and then the strips were glued in an alternating pattern. It vaguely reminded me of Bargello. Anyway, this provided the background and a stamped image was placed on top.

I can think of lots of vintage stamps that would look great on this background.

Ohh I bet you could do it with pages/copies of an old hymnal too. Great for Christmas.

I might be able to just figure it out if I play around with some newsprint. I could age today's newspaper with distress ink.

I googled it and found out it's a technique that was on Pat's Technique Junkie Newsletter CD. I don't think you get anyone to tell you how it's done since you have to pay for those techniques.
But to me it looks like the newspaper was cut in strips so your text runs diagonally. Sponge the edges of the strips and then adhere to create a background.

I also Googled and found a photo on The Technique Trail (Jan. 17, 2012)
Very pretty card. It looks like a Chevron pattern.

If you have a quilt ruler, give this a try:
Cut the newspaper into 1/2" strips so that the print is on a 45 degree angle. Then alternate the strips (top up, bottom up, top up, bottom up), making sure the print joins at an angle.

I'm too lazy to give it a try. If you do, be sure to come back and post a pic and tell us if it works.

That's a nice picture too. I wish I'd read your suggestion about using a quilt ruler, (don't know why I didn't think of that :oops I just eyeballed it on my paper cutter  It's in my "to do" pile!

I just used the picture as a guide. I saw this newsprint decorative paper at Hobby Lobby and used it for the strips.

I cut them on the paper cutter trying to eyeball the angle (next time I'll use a quilt ruler).

Tombo tape runner on the back of each strip, adhere to a piece of black cs. I alternated the angles - northeast/southeast then northwest/southwest.

Layered with red cs and used a corner punch.

Wanted message on the computer then distress that too.

Teabag folder - used Spellbinders Lacy Squares and Hero Arts stamp there too.

Stamp image is Hero Arts.

No, Bargello requires a print so that the pattern appears to move. This newsprint technique is simpler. You just cut the print on an angle and line up the strips evenly.

Looks like a pretty cool technique.
