How do you fix a "gap" on a stamped image?

I recently used a couple of stamps which I didn't know had a small flaw on the rubber (I've had them a long time!). The smile stamp from Wonderful Words II (SU) has a tiny gap on the third loop on the "m" in smile when I stamp it. Another stamp I discovered (Graduate Calligrapy from Paper Inspirations) has a very weak "e" in the word pursue when inked. It still looks touched up to me though I use SU ink and the matching color SU marker. What do you do to hide/correct the gap(s) on your stamped image?

TIA

PS: I guess I'm going to have to get into the habit of inking up all my new stamps to check them to be sure there's no defects on the surface.

I use Sharpie markers for touch ups.

I used this "trick" for gaps. Erase the rubber image with a gum/art eraser. Be sure to clean any rubbings from the stamp. Now try it. Maybe the ink was just not adhering to the rubber. Good luck
