How do you create a PDF?
Hi everyone...
Sorry if this is in the wrong place, but I figured a lot of you use PDFs to create your templates so you might be able to help me. I was wondering how you all make your PDFs? I know that Adobe make software for this - but it seems hideously expensive! Have you all got this or is there an alternative? If you could let me know I'd be grateful! Thanks! Amy |
I usually create my files in word or in Photoshop. In photoshop, there is the option to save as a PDF. If I do something in Word, I print and scan. My scanner has the ability to save to PDF. Otherwise, as far as I know, you do need Adobe Acrobat to create a file. If you have any students in the house, I believe you can get a student discount, or if a teacher an educator's discount. Not sure how much of a savings that is for Acrobat though, with Photoshop it can be close to 50%.

I believe you can do it right through Adobe. Also, there's an online store, I think it's Academic Superstore. Sorry I don't know for sure. If you have a college bookstore nearby, maybe you can give them a call and see if they can help. Hmmm, just noticed you're in England. Not sure if it will be the same there.

There are free programs available for you to convert your word files to pdf. Just do a search through Google and a number will come up

I've used free online sources to create pdf's. The only thing you'll get is a small watermark from the company, usually in the lower left or right of your document. Now I use ms word. You have the option in the latest version to save as pdf. My scanner/printer has a save as pdf feature too.

I downloaded CutePDF...quick, simple, free.
You just take the file you make and print...only instead of using your printer you choose CutePDF as the printer. It automatically directs you to your documents to save. Simple as that. |
I was going to say we use CutePDF here at work so that we don't have to buy that many copies of Adobe Acrobat for everyone. It works great!!

I know this is late, but another tip for Mac users; when saving a Pages document, click "File" and "Export" to save as a .PDF file. Note that you can't edit this file, so be sure to save a copy as a .pages document as well.

On my Mac, I just print and use the option beside preview. There is an option there to save as pdf.

I use Google Documents. You can not only e-mail docs in PDF format, you can also publish links to the documents for posting on your blog.

Ladies--WAIT--don't buy a thing. You can do this is Word when you save a doc.
First: Save your document as a regular doc. Why? So you can edit it if you need to. Once it is a pdf it can't be edited unless you purchase a special software. Document that you want as pdf: within WORD: File: Save As: underneath the window where it shows you are saving it there is a drop down menu: Click: Format: scroll to PDF Wal--la--you have a pdf doc without spending any money or downloading another program. Ok, if your Word doesn't have it when you save it, then the crazy place it is located is after you tell the computer you want to print. YES, it is nuts that it is in there.
Do the steps to print, but don't print, just get the print window open. Then, if I remember correctly look at the whole window. I think it was the lower left corner where it gives an option to save as a pdf. Save it, then print it. HTH, Ginger |
Still no luck! My computer is only a couple years old but the MS Word program I have installed is dated about 2001 and it doesn't offer any PDF option in any of those places...but I'll know where to find it if I update the program.
I do go through print for the PDF program I'm using now so I didn't think it was nuts...this time...first time - yes! Thanks Ginger! |
I like using PDFredirect it also allows you to combine multiple pages from different sources so you can make an "All in One" pdf print.

I created my files in Corel and saved them regularly for editing purposes, then put PDF converter on my blog for easy use.
