How did she do this?!?

I think this card is gorgeous...but how do you do it? Does anybody have a guess as to what is used. I pm'ed the designer, but never heard back...

There we go. Sorry 'bout that...

jenshep13 06-04-2008 08:08 AM

I know it's CB'ed, but I can't figure out the glittery part...

cbet 06-04-2008 08:19 AM

I was able to find this tutorial
glittered cuttlebug
but it glitters the raised part of the embossing instead.

cbet 06-04-2008 08:37 AM

What if you used the glitter cardstock from DCWV and with the glittered cuttlebug technique above except using embossing powder instead of glitter?

OR use pigment/craft ink with the inking the negative tutorials that are out there, then embossing with heat-n-stick powder and glittering that?

Angelnorth 06-04-2008 08:48 AM

Looks to me like it might be glitter card that's been sanded after embossing.

onelightningchic 06-04-2008 08:57 AM

Possible Emboss Resist technique with addtionals added after? I know there is a tutoral for that.

I'd have to second this idea, you can see a tiny bit of the darker blue on some of the raised parts...so my guess would be she used craft ink with the negative inking technique, or it's sanded/spread with white ink after embossing...

Dawson 06-04-2008 09:19 AM

My guess is white craft ink to the cuttlebug folder. Glitter paper inserted into the cuttlebug folder and then ran through the cuttlebug machine. I did one using ink to the shell folder and all I did is put ink on it and add some white gel pen on the shell to perlize it.

barbara s 06-04-2008 09:44 AM

ok -- just guessing.

It looks like the embossed part is vellum, then stuck on the glitter paper with brads.

Vellum loses its transparency where it bends and the words appear outlined in "opaque".

That would be my best guess, too, based on what I can see in the pic. :D

AGJESSEE 06-05-2008 09:44 PM

i think she might of used glue pad or something sticky on the cb folder then ran it through. Then applied glitter to it. (the glue is not on te letters though)

Indy_Patti 06-06-2008 01:53 AM

My vote for vellum

I just had to try this and I think its vellum too. It looks like a vellum layer on the card posted. I tried cardstock and paper. The cardstock letters show up much better, but the paper is more see-through. Maybe the original designer will come forward so we'll know for sure!

Here's the directions that PollyannaBanana sent me (hope she doesn't mind me sharing) on how she made the card:

*versamarked the front inside of cuttlebugfolder(the side that says provocraft backwards when you open it up),
*ran it through machine as usual
*quickly sprinkled embossing powder on it (I used glittered)
*heated with an embossing gun

HTH!

Farmwife 06-06-2008 09:43 AM

I just:

*versamarked the front inside of my cuttlebugfolder(the side that says provocraft backwards when you open it up),
*ran it through my machine as usual
*quickly sprinkled embossing powder on it (I used glittered)
*heated with an embossing gun

and TADA! Sparkly card! Sorry it took me so long to realize people were so interested! Good luck and I hope to see all your cards!! TFL and Thanks for being interested! :-D

PollyannaBanana 06-06-2008 01:26 PM

Hahaha! I guess I should look through the WHOLE forum before I post! TFS Bubblyboo!

jenshep13 06-06-2008 01:36 PM

Thanks for sharing your great method!!! Just think the card is absolutely beautiful!!!!!! Can't wait to try it!! (Oh my word...do I ever overuse exclamation points!)

Indy_Patti 06-06-2008 01:36 PM

Thanks so much for telling us! Your way sounds much easier than using vellum! I'm off to try it!

Patti

sharonw05 06-06-2008 05:27 PM

Wow--what an awesome card! I can't wait to try this technique!

I believe this is what it is. I've tried it with some glitter card I have and it looks like this.

Edit: ok. so I spoke before I read the rest of the thread. I guess either way works fine

Hey, PABs ;)

Welcome to SCS, and thanks for taking time out to come share your genius with us! That's a pretty dazzling effect I'm gonna hafta try some time!

PollyannaBanana 06-09-2008 12:41 PM

No problem everyone! I am flattered that everyone was so interested! I would LOVE to see some of your cards you made using this technique!

Yami 06-09-2008 01:48 PM

I just got my paisley folder today....will have to try this soon!!! LOL!

Phantom 06-09-2008 02:15 PM

I like this, too, Pollyannabanana!! Thanks from a "troll" ;) to a "yooper"! BTW, where do you find glitter embossing powder??

Nancy

brightrachel1008 06-10-2008 03:32 PM

su makes glitter embossing powder, so does stampendous. tfs

Phantom 06-10-2008 03:36 PM

Oh -- Iridescent Ice?? Duh. ... just a minor lapse I suppose!! thanks ~

PollyannaBanana 06-10-2008 06:00 PM

I got mine at Michael's... Stampendous! Star Dust Transparent is what I used on mine. :o)

Phantom- Hooray for trolls! I am a transplant Yooper, but I have been here for about 5 years (I just finished my degree at NMU).... and I do say "Eh?" so I think I am pretty acclimated! ;)

mdov 06-10-2008 07:10 PM

Thank you so much for your willingness to share the instructions on how you did the glittered cuttlbug. I appreciate it and cannot wait to give it a try :-D

basketostamps 06-10-2008 09:50 PM

You could also run it through a xyron machine (upside down so adhesive is on the "right side") and pour glitter all over.

lchild 06-11-2008 06:13 AM

Would LOVE any hints on using a cuttlebug!

Dear Glitter Queen - thanks so much for sharing this technique. I just bought a cuttlebug machine this past weekend and am looking forward to trying it out. Do you have any "hints" or other unique techniques that you like to use on the cuttlebug? Thanks so much.

Lil

There are lots of threads with great advice for techniques, hints, etc. Just use the search box to find them. Of course the best two places for inspiration are Indigo Inklings and Heart Prints, you will find hours of fun stuff on those sites!
Enjoy your 'bug... welcome to the addiction! :D

Sabrinasmom 06-11-2008 01:22 PM

How cool is that! I am bookmarking for future reference!

Phantom 06-11-2008 01:27 PM

Me too! My Cuttlebug is grossly underused and it's time to get with it!

ppofct 06-11-2008 06:55 PM

Definitely try the latter technique by Pollyannabanana, i saw and tried the one that was linked earlier in this thread . while I was trying to add the my focal point to the glittered layer - the glitter was wiping off. Glittered embossing powder seems more stable - will try the next time. Also if anyone has suggestions as to how to make sure something sticks to a layer that is both dry embossed and glittered.... let us know. i woound up doing what I could with brads b/c adhesive- both snail, and ATG would not hold to the base.

lisa foster 06-12-2008 04:07 PM

You Michigan stamping geniuses need to send some of your talent down here to the THUMB! LOL :)
(For the rest of you, the THUMB is geographically inferior. :(
Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful idea, Pollyannabanana! Can't wait to try it!

I don't know about this particular combination but whenever I'm trying to adhere to a tricky base (even just embossed with crystal clear), I stick with (haha!) glue dots or tacky tape.

I know where Marlette is!! One of my sisters lives in Lexington and we visit often! And yes... the geography of the thumb...well... it's different. But I would never say inferior ;) Glad to hear there are stampers and SCSers there!!
