Home Made bath salts
 

have you ever made this for a gift? is there anything I should know before I jump into this? Thanks in advance.

I did these with my Kindies a few years ago for Mother's Day. We used epsom salts (purchased at London Drugs) and we dyed them with small amounts of food colouring (I didn't want our Moms to turn funny colours!). I chose not to scent them since there are a lot of people (myself included) who have a difficult time with scents. I believe that you can sent them with small drops of essential oils, but I'm not positive. We layered them in baby food jars and covered the lid with fabric tied up with ribbon. HTH!

I used to make and sell bath salts a few years ago. They are really, really easy to make. I bought all my supplies from fromnaturewithlove.com. I love them! My recipe for bath salts was half epsom salt, half dead sea salt. Then I added a tiny bit of colorant and fragrance. Very easy. I even had some GREAT salt tube packaging I found. (I recommend NOT using glass bottles in the bathroom!!) But even plastic bags work great, too!

I've done these and sold them at craft fairs. I used plain epsomsalts, but I've seen many directions to combine half epsom salts and half sea salts. You can find both in drug stores pretty cheap. I used a very small amount of food coloring for the color (you'd be surprised at how little it takes) and you can use any perfume for the scents. You don't have to have essential oils.

Here's my recipe, 2 cups epsom salts, 1/2 cup sea salt, 4 tbls baking soda, 20 drops of essential oil, a drop or two of food coloring or homemade soap coloring. I found at first that my bath salts if sealed right away in a jar or other container were not loose, very caked up. Now, I leave them in a plastic sealed bag for 2 weeks open up for a few minutes and sort of mush them up everyday. Then the salts are put in a pretty container, sealed. This keeps them flowing out of the container very loose and easy. I love lavender essential oil, or lavender and ylang ylang
