Help! Square Envelope Templates
I have this AWESOME idea for a gift card set and need an square envelope template. The size I need isn't one that's readily available: 4 3/8 x 4 3/8. Does anyone have a square envelope template for this size or one I can play with to create the size I need?

Coluzzle has a great square envelope template that would fit your card and within the same template you can make envelopes from 4 1/2" to 6" square. Hope that helps. If you have questions, please send me a PM.

For anyone that's interested... I created a formula for square envelopes:
1) Cut a square equal to the 1 1/2 times the size of the card plus 1/2 of an inch; 2) With a pencil, bi-sect the card with a light line; 3) Where the line meets the edge, cut a small 1/2" right triangle; 4) Fold the corners in to create the envelope and secure with your chosen adhesive; 5) Use envelope paste for the "licking" edge.
The small right triangle lightens up the corners, kind of like when you're sewing and need to make a flat corner.
When I was done creating the template, it looked like the square envelope template from Stampin' Up! that was retired last year. I'm still testing the calculations, however, theoretically, it should work.

Thanks for the formula!! After puzzleling over it for a few minutes I figured it out I have been searching for a supplier that sell square envelopes, and haven't found one. Now I don't need one!
Thanks again

I thought that I could use 12x12 paper to make a 6" square envelope ~ DUH. Naturally it didn't work and I didn't know what I could use. Finally someone suggested that I use one of the large cardstock M.S. papers at Mike's. I got two envelopes out of that plus enough to trim several cards to match.

?Question?
I have a question-- What type paper do you use to make the envelopes? Seems cardstock would be to stiff and copy paper to thin. Thanks.

The Martha Stewart line at Michaels also includes rolls of papers. They are large but I don't know the measurements. I used one 18x18 sheet of scrapbook paper.

I have used both cardstock and scrapbook paper. Cardstock IS thick but makes a cool envelope if you attach a string and 2 of those circle thingees to wind the string around to close it...arg! What are those called??? They're like the inner office envelopes we have at work. I punch out 2 circles and attach them with eyelets in the centers, to the flap and the envelope and tie the string to the envelope circle thingee. (If anyone can understand that, I'll be shocked...)
Regular scapbook paper is heavy enough and sometimes I buy cheap-on-sale paper to make envies. Of course, that doesn't work for 6x6!

I can't believe Martha has 18x18 paper! Gotta make a special trip for that one!
Oh, yeah, my LSS has flowered paper bags they put everything in, so I've used those to make envies, especially the large size like 6x6.

Hi I would love to use this formula...but I am so bad without seeing things...I can't visualize how to fold the corners in. Or why you are bisecting the card.
Also I can't see scgustaf's gallery instructions....if anyone can post them here.
Thanks for any help.
Lisa.

I'm sure you can find the answer to any postage question at USPS.com. I just make 'em. I don't mail 'em.

I did it. I did it I used your directions and made an envelope for a 5 x 5 card out of copy paper. The paper was at least 20# in weight. I also used a calculator to check the measurements I had come up with. Needed an 8 x 8 square of paper. Thank you again. It was so easy.

I have a square envelope template from Judikins but it makes an envelope for a 3x3 card - I am sure you could use the basic shape to make a larger template. Here's the link so you can see the shape:

I cut some envy's from my square 5 x 5 die using 70# drawing paper...I buy it in tablets that are 9 x 12...and the weight is perfect for lots of techniques...I also cut the envy's from the 20# legal size paper, I buy at the office supply stores...
hugs, Debbie

I haven't read through this whole thread, but people were saying that a 12x12 piece of paper is not big enough for a 6x6 card.
I made a 6x6 card recently, and tried to make an envelope from 12x12. I laid the card on an angle on my paper, then folded the envelope up around it. It was crooked, so I need to work on it, but there was plenty of paper that way. The trick is getting the paper at the correct angle to have your envelope come out evenly.

I tried that too so I know what you mean about it being crooked. I have not had time to try again but I think if I can create a template (even if I have to tape together paper for it to be large enough), it could be used to determine the angle. There's probably a way to calculate it but formulas are not my forte.
I'm subbed to this thread so if I ever get a chance to play around I will post my results.
Thanks to all who have shared their knowledge and experience.
Happy Crafting!
