I love this look! You could probably get some quitling books out of your library and scale then down for pattens. Another thing that I did was to shade around each block first to give it a more realistic and "worn" look. I'll have to dig around and see if I can find some of the patterns I used.

Here is an example of a few I did to give you an idea for a pattern.
