HELP! Scrapbook help needed for a beginner scrapper
I want to make my very first scrapbook--I'm thinking 6x6 size, for it seems less intimidating to me.
The photos i want to use are the Christmas Eve photos I've taken for the last 13 years. You know the kind, the kids standing in front of the fireplace in their jammies and also a picture either lighting their special Christmas Eve candle or listening to Daddy read the Christmas story from the bible. (of course, there are a few years where it's just our oldest as a little babe, but most of them are the traditional every year type picture).
How would YOU scrapbook something like this? I have ABSOLUTELY NO CLUE! I have never done a single page. Would I make every page exactly the same, just change the picture? Would I stamp or print out the year prominently on the page somewhere? Do I change the layout/colors depending on the jammies worn (hee hee- our middle child has worn the same nightgown 3 years in a row, but I'm thinking it won't fit this year! )
I would want to make 4 copies of this book-one for each child and one for my dh and me to keep, so I wouldn't want it to be too detailed.
Then there's also the first day of school pictures to scrapbook! I just love to take the same picture every year and see how they have changed and see what they've picked out for their first day of school clothes!

An easy way to make the scrapbooks go quickly would be to choose your paper colors, whether they are all the same color or you choose 2 or 3, then stamp your background while they are still the 12x12 size. Then when you cut your paper into 6x6, your background is already done! You can add an embellishment here and there after you get the pictures on the paper.
Just an idea!
I think it might look neat to use the same layout for the whole thing, just changing the background color to suit the jammies. I did one for a carribbbean cruise that way and it turned out looking great. Another way I have seen it done was to use the same color throughout, just change the layour slightly depending on the size of the photo. This had a very cohesive look to it. It used different size strips, blocks, etc of all the same papers throuhgout.
I'm pretty new to scrapbooking too. Last month I made a 6 x 6 album as a birthday present for my twin sister. She lives near the shore and my family has spent many wonderful weeks there summer and winter. I used pictures of her 2 kids and my 2 kids. The background pages were all the same (sand) color. I tore a darker tan 2" strip for the left side. I used the same matting color (blue). The only differences from page to page were the stamping I did. Some had shore birds, shells, etc. I love how it came out and more importantly, she loved it too. I also added a bunch of already prepared backgrounds so she could add photos to it. Your kids will love them. Ours are 20 -25 years and one of them was always looking at it. Good luck with yours.
Thanks, ladies, for your helpful advice. I will be sure to post my pages when i get them done!
