Ok, do any of you guys get shoulder pains from stamping too much? LOL I have lately and need some help. I saw something called a Stamp Press but it was quite expensive. Someone else told me to step on them. But I think I would slip and smear the image. Any thoughts?
If it's a background stamp use the brayer. I happen to have two and use one for applying the ink. With the rubber up put the CS on the stamp, put a piece of scrap paper over that then brayer over the area where the CS is. You'll get a clear image and great coverage without all the pressure.
Which shoulder is it, is it the one on the arm you stamp with or the other one?
I am right there with you and looking for suggestions!! I actually have arthritis in my right should, bilateral carpel tunnel, and am going to find out about neck surgery next month so I need all of the advice I can get!!!
I have tendenitos (SP) in my right, there are several streches that can be done to help with the stiffness and tightness. Most doctors have a sheet of stretches for the shoulder.
Sometimes mine happens because I have just sat ther two long all tensed up without realizing it.
I have the same problems. I went to a shoebox swap with 35 participants and the next morning I almost couldn't get out of bed. Between my shoulder blades and my neck hurt so bad I almost cried. I have high blood pressure and I shouldn't take Motrin, but I got to tell you that it was a Motrin kinda day!
Michele,
I have some excercises that I am supposed to do as I went for physical therapy in the summer but my time is so limited ~ stamp or excercise? So I end up in pain after stamping!! Most of my problem stamping is that I have a buldgind disc in my neck that is pressing against the spinal cord and it really hurts to look up or look down. If I could just learn to stamp straight in front of me I would be okay!!
Sitting in front of a computer while we're on SCS doesn't help either!!
Shoulder stretches really help. So put the chocolate on the far side of the table & reach with both hands!!
Seriously, though, try some simple exercises with light weights. My son started me on weight training recently after I complained about shoulder & neck pain, and it helps a lot. I was shocked to find out how little upper body strength I have! He uses dumbbells that weigh 65 lbs. each and I'm using ..... 5 lbs. each!! Anyhow, I got immediate improvement.
Thanks! I really have to do the excercises because at the end of the day I can barely move. And yes, you are right, being on this website for 2-3 hours a day is not helping me!!! Wonder where my carpel tunnel came from. Shoulder pain or not I will not miss a day on this website ~ IT IS AWESOME!!!
I hear you, I have cronic abdomial pain and there are times I wish I could stamp laying on my back. LOL When I'm stamping I try to stop every once and a while and just do some simple stretches, just to work out those kinks. Though for you with that disk those might be just as bad, I feel for you. I hope your appointment for your shoulder goes well.
Thanks Michele!! My problem is going to be ~ am I going to have to wait 6-8 weeks after my surgery before I can stamp again???I will go absolutely crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!

PHayes,
One possible way to avoid surgery and the 6-8 week post-surgical healing is to check out other alternatives to the surgery...
I myself ended up having surgery for a herniated disk in my low back, and the healing period was worse than the actual surgery. Physical therapy and the execises are great and help tremendously but the best thing I found was a thing called "Low Intensity Laser Therapy" It goes by several different names as well ...
I know, sounds quackie but it actually works. There is no side effects, is non-invasive, doesn't hurt AT ALL and I wish I had done this BEFORE my surgery.
I have met MANY patients who use this therapy before surgery and end up cancelling because the pain disappears or has improved soooo much that they don't feel the need to go under the knife.
This is a link to a website about it if you want to check it out. http://www.meditech-bioflex.com/
Treatments can be costly, but then again so is surgery.... :(
I live in Canada, but I am sure there are other clinics all over the USA if you do an internet search...
Just wanted to share my experience with you...
I wish you the best of luck and hope you're back to stamping without pain very soon....
Niki

I too would suggest alternative, nonsurgical methods before having the surgery. Most back surgeries don't eliminate the problems. I promise I am not some weirdo, woodoo person. I see doctors and take medicine as needed, but I do think the evidence speaks for itself about this one...
At least make an appointment to see what a good chiropractor can do before having surgery!!! You have nothing to loose, but possibly MUCH to gain by avoiding surgery. I didn't believe in alternative therapies AT ALL until someone finally pursuaded me to try a chiro. for my chronic headaches. As I have done my own research I have found that almost all neck, shoulder, head, back, leg, disc problems can be treated with chiropractic therapy because they are usually related to poor posture which is evident in "hunching" over while stamping, being on SCS, etc. Certainly not everything can be treated and chiropractic does take a committment of time, but when you compare the time you will spend preparing for, recovering from, and living through the surgery which os often not sucessful, it is worth at least a consultation. Ask around for recommendations as they are not all the same either.
Take it from me...I have been headache free for years and get adjustments regularly...and that nagging pain in my shoulders that I never told the chiropractor about went away too!
I totally agree - get thee to a chiropractor. Mine not only fixed my back and shoulder pain, relieved carpal tunnel and headaches, but I was 1/2 inch taller after several adjustments. IT'S TRUE!!! I went from 5' 1-1/2 " (which I'd been since 15 years old) to a full 5' and 2" (verified by the nurse at my internist's office).

Have you seen a pain management doctor for it? I had that laser surgery done on my abdomin, and the pain management doctor did it. Basicly it let me know that nerves weren't the reason for my pain.
When I had my hysterectomy I had to wait about 2 months before I could sit up to stamp, so I completly understand.
Did you have a bad reaction to surgery? I was back at work 4 weeks after my complete hysterectomy with gallbladder removal surgery. I don't think I stamped till 3 weeks though...just wasn't "into it". LOL

As for a Chiro, one of my best friends is a chiro and he says I have no alternative. He said the surgery is a must!! He just read the report though because he lives out of state. I am getting my films later this week and mailing them to him to look at. Hopefully he has good news for me after seeing them!!
Thanks to everyone for the advise ~ I will consider all of it to avoid surgery!!!
I had a hard time healing partly because in the two and a half years before it I had 9 laperoscopies. My stomach had about as much as it could take. Did the cut you open completly too? I also caught a bladder infection with in a week of the surgery. They found it when I went in to get my staples out, luckly my doctor always requires a sample with every visit.
I am a stamper by night but I am also a Physical Therapist by day.
It is VERY IMPORTANT to stretch before, during, and after any activity that requires repetitive movement or extended periods of maintaining one postion. Alas, stamping fits into these categories.
Make sure that you take breaks - get up walk around - do gentle stretches - and adjust your work surface height so that you are not hunched over your projects.
If you can't adjust the table you are working on...adjust your chair so that your project is close to you.
You don't have to invest in anything expensive for a proper workplace, you can use pillows and household items to either boost you up or lower you down.
The idea is to prohibit the pains from happening by maintaining a neutral postion of the spine and extremities so that they are not experiencing any strain resulting in a painfree next morning!

I'm having the pain in my right shoulder and I'm right handed. I found a Stamp Press at http://www.rubberstamppress.com It's $69.95 which I think is pricey. But I like the concept. Has anyone seen anything similar to this?
