There's lots you can use - glitter, sequins, beads, microbeads ... I'm sure there's more but that's all that's coming to me at the moment. They are so fun!

The best shaker card I ever made was one with House Mouse (meese?) eating an apple. I used black pumpkin seeds in it. It won a prize and that was ten years ago. Gotta love it!

I have used beads, microbeads, punches of baby feet, slim buttons. I love the seeds idea! Sand is great too. What about bath salts (since they are colored) or regular salt?

I think salt would draw moisture and make the ink bleed and the paper warp. Just guessing though as I have never tried it.

I made a snowglobe and used artificial snow -- like you put in miniature villages.

I used salt as snow in a shaker card once. No problems at all.

I used sawdust and hardware on this one:
Shakin' Birthday by stamps&cars at Splitcoaststampers
I've also used bird seed on one with birds.
