Default Altered composition books...

I would like to alter some composition books but after browsing the forum, I have a question: Do you seal your DP with Mod Podge or some other medium after you've attached it? It didn't look like it on the ones in the gallery nor did the artists say anything about sealing. It seems like they wouldn't hold up very well if you didn't, though. Any thoughts?

Thanks for your help!!!

I don't seal mine with anything and I think they hold up just fine.

I agree, I don't seal mine either, and they hold up very well. I tend to think sealing with something like modgepodge would make then crackle when you open and close them. I've made tons of them and not a had a problem.

Default I do...

I use mp to adhere my paper. The trick to using it is to make sure you have a thin coat, then put the paper on, then use a brayer to get rid of the air bubbles.

Here are my steps:
Coat the book with mp - let dry (very important)
Put a thin coat of mp on - paper on - brayer it - let dry (very important)

Then, once all my paper is on then I put about 4/5 coats ontop letting it dry inbetween. Yes, you will get some bubbles, but when it drys the bubbles go away.

HTH,
Ginger

I haven't sealed my papers, and they seem to hold up fine. I do tend to use darker colored papers, though (just to avoid finger smudges, etc.) I use mod podge to adhere, too, but have had better luck with brushing a thin coat on the paper rather than the notebook. Less bubbles! Good luck with your project!

Thanks for all the help--can't wait to get started on one! Unfortunately, I had to work late tonight, so maybe tomorrow. Have a nice evening, everybody!
