Going gray?!?
 

I just received this inkpad and I have no idea what to use it with. Could someone please give me some help so I can 'play'. I tried doing a search but I didn't find anything.

One things I read about is gray guiding. That's when you have a more detailed image and you stamp it in gray and then do detail coloring with chalks, watercolor, markers or pencils. A great set to do that with is simple florals (there are several samples of that in the gallery).

Gray is always great with a vase or jar (like the one from all wrapped up)

I'd love to hear other ideas as well.

I love to stamp in my chosen color and then stamp again slightly down and to the left in going grey. It produces a great shdow affect and adds quite a bit of depth.

Lots of experienced stampers at the first workshop I went to told me they liked to use Going Gray as the image colour instead of the basic black, since it was not "so bold." I bought it to try and I guess since it was my first pad ever, I didn't realize it was not supposed to be as dry as it was. I never really used it much for that reason. But the thought was there! :-)

I also like it when I am doing something and going to mount it on the brushed silver paper. It seems to add that extra interest if it is sponged around the edges and draw attention to the silver paper around it-kind of spreads the silver, if you know what I mean.

I've used it to stamp snowmen and snowflakes...it's a soft look.

I use it to blender pen or water color shadows too! there is a bunny card in my gallery that was poped out using going gray.

I always use grey for images when I'm using softer coloured papers..great soft look with baby cards and for water colouring.

I use it to stamp my In the Wild elephant but that's about it for me.
I like having all the ideas everyone is posting. Keep them coming!!

I hope that someday SU comes out with a waterproof gray like they came out with the brown this year.... I would love that.

On a piece of white cardstock stamp an image, needs to be something of an outline like "Fresh Flowers", with the gray ink pad then use the chalks and go over the the gray lines. Because it is gray, the lines will become whatever color chalk you use. Darker color chalks work better for this.

I use mine for the fan and toaster (blender pen watercoloring) in the FURNISHED WITH LOVE hostess appreciation set. Or the elephant in the valentine greetings set (can't think of the name offhand).

I got mine, then never used it, so I sold it. Then I had to order it again! LOL

And here, when I first saw the title of this post, I thought you were talking about your hair turning grey :D :D :D

Going Gray
 

Hi, I just did a demo with it and got a great response. A few customers were surprised and even purched the pad. I used the new Shapes & Shadows set - the butterfly. I stamped the outline stamp in the going gray and the inside stamp with eggplant envy. These two colors look great together. I like the gray when I don't want such a bold look as black.

I like to use it with the two step stamps. It works well for spotlighting. Do a row of flowers (or whatever) in grey and black 2 step and then spotlight one in color.

Thanks for the visual! I really like how you used the grey with the tulips.

All I could think of was to use it with an elephant--that works perfectly fine, but it's nice to see some other creative ideas.

Going grey is wonderful with any stamp set that you are planning to color in with the pastels. I love it for Easter cards, bunnies, baby cards, wedding, etc. Just play around with it and see what you come up with! I love the idea for it to come in a waterproof pad so it could be watercolored! Someone send that in to SU!

I just went on a mini-kick of using my going grey. I like it with pinks! It is a great color once you use it a few times!

It is also a good base color for the spotlighting technique if you want to make it softer. Stamp the whole image in gray (rather than black) and then spotlight an area with color. With the grey it is softer looking. I have seen it done with sympathy cards and it is a nice, muted look.

I like to use Going Grey instead of silver on wedding and bridal shower cards. The wedding bells from SKetch an Event really looks beautiful done in this color.
