Default Inking a large stamp

Hi there all. I am having trouble getting an even image when I stamp a large image like a background stamp or even one that is a bit smaller. I have the fiskars stamper for unmounted stamps and I think I'm doing something wrong there, too. Any advice would be gratefully appreciated! Thanks.

Liza

I've never tried it, but I have heard to use a brayer on it.

I ink my background stamp, leaving ink side up, I then take my paper and place on top of ink. I either press the paper down evenly on top of the stamp or I use a bayer (rarely) of slide the wood side of a different stamp accross the paper making an even image. I never palce the stamp on the paper like I do with smaller stamps, unless I am intentionally trying to get an uneven image.

The main thing I do with either way above I use is MAKE SURE THE PAPER DOES NOT MOVE or I will have a smeared image.

The usual advice is:
Make sure you have an even coating of ink on your stamp, and brayering the ink on may well help.If using an inkpad, put the stamp upside down & tap over it with the pad.'Huffing' over the stamp after you have inked it, just before you stamp with it, sometimes helps- maybe the ink is drying a little too quickly.
Make sure you apply even pressure all over the back of the stamp- standing up helps,as you can put more weight on the stamp, as does putting one hand on top of the other- don't rock the stamp, but press well all round the edges.
A stamping pad, or a stack of newspapers as a 'cushion' can sometimes help, although personally I find a good, firm surface works better for me.
Is the 'missing' portion of the image(s) always in the same area? Maybe you are just missing this when you press down- maybe you have a bit of a dip in your worksurface, or the surface is 'giving' a little bit - try stamping on a different part of your worksurface, or another surface.
Thats as many as I can think of, I hope something helps

Brayers do work well to get an even coating of ink on a large stamp. If applying enough presssure is the problem, I've been know to place my cardstock on the floor, the stamp on top and step on it. Works for me.

I pat the ink pad on the stamp until evenly covered. I do this a couple times then stamp.

I agree with using a brayer! I had a lot of trouble and disappointment with House Mouse stamps. I posted here and someone shared to use a brayer. Now, I get great images each time.

I also use a brayer to apply the ink to the stamp. Then I leave the block side down and place the paper to stamp on on top of the inked image. Then I put a piece of scratch paper on top of the image and rub over the top with my hand. I use the wood block stamps for this so am not sure if this works with clear stamps.

I don't use a brayer. I just ink my stamp with the stamp sitting up and patting the ink pad on top.
