Has anyone tried the faux tile technique that is in Jan. 08 Stampin' Success? I am not having a lot of luck with it, and we are doing that tech at this month's stamp club. I tried using the sponge, but it gets ink in the "grout lines". I tried rubbing my entire ink pad across the paper, but that tends to leave lines from the edge of the ink pad. Any suggestions. I've tried many color combos too.
Please HELP!!!!

I just used a background stamp after I "tiled" it, and it looks just fine. So, maybe use a background stamp? I dont have one, but how about a brayer? Another thought...

Love that card!!
Can you tell me how you figured out the diagonals evenly when you scored. I can't seem to wrap my mind around it!
Thanks for that idea....I don't have any background stamps yet tho - I love the look of it. Just wonder if I could order one and get it to me by next weekend.....That's when stamp club meets.
Would like to know if anyone has tried it sponging it on - as that is what the directions tell you to do. Maybe I had too much ink on my sponge? I just rubbed the sponge onto my stamp pad and the tapped it onto the cardstock. I practiced a LOT!

You know, I used my paper trimmer. I scored at every 1 inch. All I did was a pick a mark on the horizontal, like 3 inches, and then I pointed the corner at the 1 inch vertical line, and then as I moved it, I kept lining up the scored line at that same point. I dont know if that makes sense, but that is what I did.

I'm doing this technique for my stamp club, too! I used the sponge. Keep a light touch to it at first, both on the stamp pad and card stock, then sponge over it more to get a darker shade. My sister pushes that sponge hard into the ink and rubs it hard on the card---way too much color! Dab lightly! I tease her about her pressure issues!
I did what Amy did above---I just scored the first line where I wanted it, then moved the card an inch away using the ruler marks on the trimmer.

I'll try some more with the sponge. I do like the look of it. I even like the look of just the scored lines without extra ink. But, I did get one to look really good by rubbing the paper across the stamp pad - very similar to how you would do it when you color the edges of the paper with the stamp pad. I just want those grout lines to really stand out. (I'm a bit of a perfectionist I think! ) I've been using Sahara Sand paper and River Rock ink. I've also tried Blue Bayou over the Sahara Sand - it's a good combo.
I'll keep practicing.

I used a sponge on mine and just dabbed it lightly into the ink and then used a up and down thumping motion with the sponge. My card is in my gallery, I don't know how to link it.
