Gamasol?

Gamasol? I've been trying to figure out just what this is. All I can find is that it is a low odor thinner?? If so, will any low odor thinner work? Is this a brand name? I've looked for this at Michaels in the art section but I don't see this exact item. I'd really like to try this technique! TIA for any comments or suggestions!

Gamsol is a brand name of Odorless Mineral Spirits. Michaels carries Mona Lisa which works almost as well. Make sure to keep just a small amount of your OMS in a container that can be tightly sealed when not in use since it 1) evaporates very quickly and 2) is not so hot to be inhaling!

I keep mine in a plastic bottle that has a dauber top. I just shake and squeeze the bottle a little bit to get it started. The just rub your paper stump on the dauber top to transfer the OMS. A coarse nail file (like for acrylic nails) helps keep the stump point in shape.

Any odorless mineral spirit will work. For that matter, any solvent will work...it's just healthier to use the low odor stuff. I use a brand called Sansodor made by Winsor & Newton which I got at an art supplies store. I have a small heavy glass jar that once held some sort of Avon cream and I put one of those cotton pads (like for removing makeup) in the bottom. Then I pour just enough of the Sansodor in the bottom to soak it good. Then to use, I just dip my stump in it till it soaks up about the bottom quarter inch. It works just great!

i want to try this as well. i am taking a class on it this week. the store that is having the class said that the gamsol only works with prisma watercolor pencils. is this true?? what brand of pencils do you all use? tia!!

I'm sure there's a mistake there. Solvents work with about any colored pencil; I used it long before I discovered Prismacolor and it worked fine. It also works really well with oil based pastels.

Ok, i have a question, is odorless mineral spirits the same as odorless paint thinner? My michaels had mona lisa odorless paint thinner, are we talking the same kind of stuff here? lol...i keep buying stuff and have no idea if what i have is giving me the effect i'm supposed to be getting. i also purchased windsor & newton blending and glazing medium will that work?
