Default Faux Shaving Cream!

I just tried Faux Shaving Cream according to the directions in this month's Stampin' Success and ...

WOW!

It is so cool! It worked like a charm.

Anyone else try it? Did it work for you??

I tried it the other day, and LOVE how it looks! I've never tried the real technique before because I never wanted to make a mess, so this is a great alternative for me! Here's the card I did...

My upline even had me demo it at our meeting yesterday. She read the article in the SS but didn't quite understand how it was done. One girl said she liked doing the real technique because she liked the smell! LOL

How did you do 2 colors on the big flower? I liked the sample in the SS, too, but couldn't figure it out.

Thank you, but I think this is the link to the real SC technique. Can someone give us the link to the Faux SC technique? Please?

Oh heck, I'm sorry! I was just now reading this and seeing everyone asking for directions! I wish I had a scanner to just scan the article from Stampin' Success! Hang on... I have to go downstairs to get my copy and I'll see what I can do!

OK, I'm just going to type out the technique as it's presented in the magazine...

"First, ink a wheel with a solid-texture image. For example, you would want to select a bold wheel rather than a wheel with a line art image; the more lines on the wheel, the finer the texture in the image. (I used Scatter Sunshine on my card that's linked above.) Although you could also use any solid-texture stamp for this technique, the wheels have a nice handle, which makes it easier to achieve the shaving cream look.

Next, ink a bold stamp like those from our Bodacious Bouquet or Headline Alphabet sets. Don't worry about making sure that the stamp is evenly covered. The trick to faux shaving cream is simply to do it! No need to agonize over each step.

Once your stamp is ready to go, kiss it with your wheel by swiping the wheel on the stamp. Twist your wrist as you tap, or use a side-to-side motion if you swipe. The key to creating the marble swirl is in this movement. Finally, stamp your image on your project.

When you use faux shaving cream, try experimenting with two-color combinations. Ink your wheel for a beautiful look that incorporates the colors in your project. A spectrum of three colors also works well: try adding another color to one or our Dynamic Duos for a terrific trio. For example, ink your wheel with both Rose Red and Regal Rose ink and apply it to a stamp inked with Pretty in Pink.

You'll also notice subtle spots of the card stock you are using peek through the ink. It's okay for the wheel to remove color from the inked stamp rather than depositing more color. In fact, it looks even more like the original shaving cream technique when it lifts color off in places.

You can also acieve a lovely marbled effect with only one color. To do this, kiss your stamp with an uninked wheel."
-from November 2006 Stampin' Up Stampin' Success magazine

Hope this helps!!! Holler at me if I can give any more advice! I just love this new technique!

Many, many thanks, Tammy!! It was so sweet of you to go to all this trouble!! I don't have any wheels but I'll try it anyway.. just gotta!! I love this look!! If I can get results half as good as yours, I'll be happy!
Ummm.. I'm thinkin' this techniq would make pretty clouds as well as bkgrnds. Do the faux, then cut out free-hand cloud shapes.. I'll have to play.. lol...
Thank you again, and may God bless! Stormy

I think if you had a stamp, maybe a flower that doesn't have too-fine lines, it would work the same. Just randomly "kiss" the solid-texture stamp with the flowered stamp, twisting your wrist as you go to make the pattern more random. Please anyone, give me a shout if you try this! I want to see what you come up with!
