Floating letters card???

I saw this Floating Card from Bonnie S., 2013-06-10 Happy Birthday Daniel! | The Craftiblog. When I tried to find a written tutorial, on Google, I only came up with floating letters for Photoshop.

Does anyone have this tutorial or know where I can find it? Especially if the name is different. :)

Thanks, Lisa

I'm afraid I haven't seen one and unless you can find a step-by-step with photos I'm not sure you'll do much better than her description. She's basically cut two of each letter and glued one to the front of the piece of acetate and the other exactly aligned over it on the back of the same piece of acetate. The strip is most likely scored to match the fold of the card and the insert piece covers up where it's stuck down to hinge as the card opens. Acetate has a springiness to it so it will "float" as the card is opened.

HTH!

Thanks for the help! :)

I just looked at the card, and I think you described it perfectly, Joanne. It is a neat looking card. Like she said, it probably took a little work to get those letters to line up perfectly without the glue showing through the acetate.

Lisa I sent you a PM.

If anyone else is interested I found a video done by "dostamping" on Youtube showing how to make a card like this. Search for "pop up name card" on her youtube channel.

Sorry I can't link up here right now.

Hope this helps, I like the idea and may make one myself.

Just watched the video. That is very cool!

This person seems to be a SCS member. bonnie32002. Here's a link to her gallery:

So you could pm her and ask. She doesn't seem to have posted the card, but if you pm her, she'll get an email message that you've messaged her.

Hi, I'm a SU demonstrator in Australia. Our recent demonstator magazine had a card to construction using this method but spelling the word 'Dad' for Father's Day. The method description is accurate though. Hope this helps. Ciao Meg

Wow, I've never seen a card like this before. What a cool technique!

Thank you for the Link. I have to try this now.

Dawn Olchefske has an awesome video on how to do this here:

Video: DAD, Pop-Up Name Card - DOstamping with Dawn, Stampin' Up! Demonstrator

It's an easy technique once you know what you need to do. Have fun.

:)

I made a similar one that used lots of shamrocks rather than letters (same process, though) and I have the technique listed in my instructions to myself as
Valita's Pop Up card.

If you go online you will find various tutorials and videos for this card with many themes.

They are basically called Pop-Up cards.
Here's a link showing step by step instructions.............

Thank you for posting the link. That's exactly how I did mine, but I don't know how to attach a link---I feel proud that I can attach my example!

Posting a link:
Right click on the link,(that will highlight the link) click 'copy' and then click 'paste' when you are ready to post the link.
Practice and send a link to yourself.
Easy to do once you get the hang of it.

I will try that when I get home. I'll have to adapt your instructions to my MacBook that has no mouse, no right click, but I can highlight and go to edit and copy and paste. Thanks for taking the time to help me.

I like the idea of turning the store bought card inside out, so you can use the plain side for your own design. And cutting the cover so you can see the inside is always a nich touch. But I simply do not see the point of the acetate, which, when folded to the left, will have the name backwards and what's that about?

bound4london 06-24-2013 01:14 AM

Ooh, thanks for sharing. I do really think I can do this one. Been wanting to figure out a way to do the pop up cards. How fun to see the recipients name pop when they open their card!
