if you don't want to ruin her beautiful background paper, try using some acetate with stazon ink for you image. then lay it over the background paper. It will probably help protect it as well. I heard that hairspray can seal the chalks, but never tried it yet.
Do a search for chalk sealing.
Krylon makes a fixative that seals pastels. I bought mine at Michaels for about $7 (Canadian). It was in the section where they keep spray paints and such and it is called Workable Fixative. This means you can work on your pastels, spray it to set what you've done and then come back later to add more pastels. You'll especially want to use this type of fixative for scrapbooking as hairspray is not acid free or archival safe and this is :lol:
