Faux stitching question

A quick question for you faux stitchers out there (I am soon to join you, hopefully!!) -- My white gel pen and Mat Pack just came today from SU! and I'm a little confused by all of the holes. Which spacing (1/8 & 1/4 OR 3/16 & 3/8) do most of you use when faux stitching?
Thanks!
Irene

O.K., so I'm not sure how the little smiley dude with sunglasses ended up in my question. He's sitting right on top of my 8! haha!

Just bumping this for you...I don't have a Mat Pack...I "THINK" most people use 1/8th of an inch. As for the smiley...if you type an 8 plus a closed bracket ) it auto formats a smiley with sunglasses 8)

I usually use the largest spacing myself. That is plenty of holes to punch.

bumping 'cause I am curious too

I just used it last night and use 1/4"... I've also used the 1/8. I think it's a matter of what you end up liking the best. closer stitch vs not so close is the question... ha ha. Not kidding though. Try them on a piece of cs and see which you like best.

Help needed with faux stitching!

I tried using the paper piercing tool and mat and white gel pen and ended up with nothing but a mess. The holes filled with ink and it definitely didn't look like stitching. What am I doing wrong? I really want to demo this.

after you punch the holes and use the white gel pen, I go back and push my piercing tool through the holes that have filled in again, so that they are move visible. I think the closer you space them together the more they will looked filled in, as much much space between holes.

I also find that the gel pen gets goopy as you use it. I keep a paper towel near by to wipe the end of the pen fairly often.

Not sure why they're filling in... I just punch with the template... making sure to pierce well... not very hard, but to where the hole is visible... then I take a ruler and my gel pen and just slowly drag it along the ruler going into the holes just enough to get the pen color, but not to innundate the hole... it may take a pass or two, but it should work fine. HTH.

Try using one of our colored markers.... those work great too!!!
