Faux Ribbon Technique instructions...Do you have them?
 

I saw a card on a website that said it used faux ribbon. Does anyone have instructions on how to do this. I'm a big technique junkie. I teach a lot of them in my classes and I'm always looking for new techniques. PLEASE HELP!

I have no idea what you're talking about, maybe you could post a link to the card?

I have, however, used a thin strip of coordinating cardstock to put through a ribbon slider or buckle on my cards. It goes all the way across just like ribbon would. You could even put it through your crimper first for that "grossgrain" look.

I'm not sure either, But is faux ribbon when you use WHITE PENCIL and make a stitch line on the cardstock. leaving a space between the lines like this
_ _ _ _ _ _. I think you get the idea. I could be wrong. Or is that called

faux stitching.

Nope I was wrong it is faux stitching sorry.

Maybe it's when you heat organdy ribbon up with a heat gun and it gives it a curling, yet ruffled look. Not sure just a guess.

I bought a stampset from The Angel Company called Ribbonborders. It has 4 different styles of ribbon (gingham, rickrack, grosgrain, and grosgrain with dots. I have tried it out and it is a great substitute for ribbon. The stamps are long enough that they will go all the way across a card without you haivng to try and match it up if you have to stamp twice.

FAUX RIBBON
 

I did one recently with Faux Ribbon. All I did was cut 2 strips of paper (Actually leftovers from another thing I did) glue them down, and put dots in the middle to give the look of the organdy dotted ribbon.

I do something similar to queenoe. I cut a very thin, long piece of paper and do faux stitching in the middle to look like the stitched grossgrain ribbon. Sorry that I don't have a gallery to show you. Also, we did a card at a workshop where we tied long, very thin pieces of ribbon into a knot, being careful not to tug so hard that it rips, and glue it on the card like a tied ribbon.

Another thing I just saw today on a blog was where they ran the paper through a crimper, then distressed like you would curl ribbon to make the layers of paper separate. They then peeled it into two layers. After laying glue on the paper, they crunched the paper to make it look like crumbled ribbon. I believe it was on Leigh O'Brien's blog.

I have the same TAC set of ribbon stamps as Lilann and use them a lot. They're great. There's also a similar Hero Arts set but not as long so you have to 'join' the stamped image each time for a normal sized card.

I must have been having a blonde moment and I'm not even blonde. The web-site link that was provided was the card that I saw and I just read the first part of the description of the card, not down to where she explains how she did the faux ribbon. The other ideas are great as well. I'll have to try them out!

JulieHRR shared a faux twill technique a while back... It uses the just jeans background, second gereation stamped with creamy caramel ink on vanilla cs. If you search her gallery, it is way in there, but a fun ribbon idea....

if u put 2 pcs. of scrap paper down w/a space between ..then sponge or run an inked brayeer across, maybe u cud try that..then u cud make any width or color..then decorate it as u please..maybe..just a thought..loves ya Gail
