FAUX POSTAGE - AN EASIER SOLUTION FOR MASKING......
Hey ladies - I haven't posted here before - but am compelled to today. I love all of the cards on this website - and ideas! I recently have discovered the Faux Postage technique (because of this website). VERY COOL! Anyways - one of the stps is to take transparency film and 'slice it' according to where you want to 'mask' the template.
Well - I have an idea that will be much quicker and easier! So here goes - hope you try it!
3M makes post it correction tape (white) that comes in rolls, and various widths. It is available at office stores, and places like Target, Walmart, etc I would think. They have a really thin width! How about using strips of this for your 'masking' portion. Very quick and easy. Your ink won't blead through unless you use the same mask a whole lot of times......... It is a great product!
This peels right off after you use it since it uses the same 'adhesive' as 3M post it notes. I have never had problems w/ it leaving residue on my paper.
Other uses for the this - especially the thicker width - would be using it on all four sides of your cards and making a masked 'frame'. or making a pattern on your paper with it (plaid?) and brayering. This stuff is COOL!

okay - sorry ladies - should have explained a little better! It is post it correctin tape - so just like post-it notes - this 'tape' peels right off. I have had no problems w/ it leaving residue, either.
We used it all the time when I worked for a law firm to cover sensitive information that we couldn't reveal to opposing counsel (like social security numbers) and it peels right off without leaving any marks, and it is very thick, so I don't think ink would go through it.
Funny, for all the years I have used the stuff, I never thought of using it for this! Thanks for the tip!

Okay...so set me straight....the REAL use of this is to temporarily mask items on documents before photocopying, etc...then you peel it up? If that's so, I could use it at work, too!
That's what we used it for at work - to mask when someone (normally attorneys) wrote on original documents that we needed to produce, or to mask sensitive information like credit card numbers, etc. - after we copied them, we removed the tape! (It will become a much stronger adhesive if left for a long, long time - so remove it when you're done.)
I love that stuff....as a teacher, I use it for interactive writing...(the scribe being students)....and when someone writes too big or spells something wrong, whip out the "Magic Tape" and try again!
Didn't think about using it for crafting!

I've been using the post-it tape for masking in rubber stamping for a while now and find it extremely useful. I have different lengths and sizes on the side of my drafting table that get used until they die from overuse. Also used it for taping down brass embossing sheets so they don't move when I use them for stenciling or use the "spackle-paste" embossing method.
Another thing that I have done is to punch small punch items from the widest of the post-it tape (works with some punches, not with others).

Excellent! I'll have to try this. Saw 'artists tape' in ACM a few weeks ago - supposed to be a similar tape you can use to temporarily hold things in place. I'll have to try both & see what happens. Has anyone ever used the painters tape (used to mask off trim, etc before painting). It's supposed to peel right off w/o a residue?

I have an even easier trick!! Depending on the size of your template, you can use the rectangle stamp from SU!'s Little Shapes set. It fits perfectly in the template I have!!
I have attached several faux postage templates, done in Word.
I just found the post-it correction tape at viking.com. What size do you recommend for faux postage technique. I think that it is a brilliant idea. thanks. Sarah
