Faux Eyelets!

Emily created a new technique and I just gotta show it off! :)

FAUX eyelets! They come in all 48 colors and then some! :)

Examples:
http://gallery.splitcoaststampers.co...cat=500&page=1
http://gallery.splitcoaststampers.co...cat=500&page=1

How to do it?

Punch a hole using the 1/4" hole punch. Attach to card. Punch a hole using 1/8" or 1/16" hole punch. Voila.... faux eyelet! So freakishly simple.

I'm sure this is not truly something she invented but we were so proud of our bad selves when we realized they looked like eyelets! :) No hammering! :)

musicmarth 06-17-2005 07:07 AM

How cool!! You could even clear emboss to give a little more pop!

I'll be trying this at home!!

Jusgottastamp 06-17-2005 07:08 AM

That's really cool....I may have to give it a try!! The cats hate it when I pound eyelets...so does dh...

Joelyn 06-17-2005 07:36 AM

Now I LIKE that!

MonTigg 06-17-2005 07:39 AM

Yeah Emily the inventor- way cute job!

Inkedup 06-17-2005 07:45 AM

I love this. I can't wait until 12:30 when I can go home and try it. Thanks for sharing.

stampinboilermaker 06-17-2005 07:49 AM

That's pretty cool! One of those things--hmmm, why didn't I think of that?!?

luv2stmp4evr 06-17-2005 07:53 AM

Love, love, love it! I saw the "eyelet" on the knit happens card yesterday and totally didn't give it another thought as to if it was real. I love the idea that now we can have "eyelets" that match all of the SU colors. TFS! You two are always coming up with brilliant ideas!

roo613 06-17-2005 08:18 AM

Great idea!! You two are brilliant!!! Maybe it's the hair color. . .:)

emilymomto3boys 06-17-2005 08:26 AM

and now we can do "eyelets" during nap time!!! It was so easy and quick and QUIET!!

Sharlene 06-17-2005 08:57 AM

Wow! I'm thinking to myself "now why didn't I think of that?"! You are just too clever!

wonton 06-17-2005 09:02 AM

Wow...you are too clever Emily! Thanks for sharing!

crystal.nixon 06-17-2005 09:32 AM

Very cool idea!

vickib1167 06-17-2005 09:59 AM

This is too cool! Now if they'd only let me off work so I could go home and do some! I think I'm feeling feverish.... :)

camsmom 06-17-2005 10:11 AM

we did this at my upline's house about a month ago and used not only the circle punch but the 1/4 inch square punch that matches the alphabits. We found if you punch the 1/8" part first and then go around it with the 1/4" punch it is easier than trying to get the little piece punched.

Cute examples you posted!:)

camsmom 06-17-2005 10:13 AM

oh duh! just reread and saw it was a bit different than yours-the ones we did were adhered over the paper, not on the cs itself. ;)

Jovi 06-17-2005 11:09 AM

Duh Britta ..... ;) (jk)

Great samples you posted using faux eyelets!

JJBrooks 06-17-2005 11:25 AM

I am so lucky I got to stamp with these two AMAZING girls!!!:)

Ahhh, so you mean they were just faux eyelets placed on the cardstock.... not for the purpose of actually having a hole? That's cool though, gonna have to do that too! Yeah, I can't imagine holding a 1/4" and trying to punch it! LOL!

NANCYRUTH 06-17-2005 11:45 AM

thank you I will use this technique alot, punches go on my next quarter wish list! :) :) :) :)

yup-they were like decorative accents-not real holes.
Love the new method you showed as well-very clever!

purplewinkle 06-17-2005 07:01 PM

Wahoo!

Which punch is better? I don't have either but I was thinking about ordering one anyway.

GarnetJ 06-17-2005 07:09 PM

Those are NEAT! It reminds me of the little gizmo that used to be on small manila envelopes [we used them for the bank or for Sunday School]. There was one little circle on the envelope flap and one on the envelope itself, with a string attached that you would wind round and round. Is there anyone else out there as OLD as I am who remembers those?

MSBetsyZ 06-17-2005 07:16 PM

Way cool, Emily! I've done the 1/2" punch with the 2-hole punch to make faux buttons, but never thought about trying to do faux eyelets! Good thinkin'!!!

janice9590 06-17-2005 07:20 PM

Actually, our envelopes at church are just like that :-)

This is great.. you two are so smart!

Faux eyelets

Great idea! I just got the 1/4" punch! What adhesive seems to work best for that small a circle?

Rox71 06-19-2005 05:28 AM

Okay this wasnt making sense to me until after I read what Britta wrote on her second post. I couldnt figure out why you would punch the big hole first and try to hold it in a punch. Thanks Britta for helping to clear my head! So your mistake was a plus for me, DUH on my part too. Great idea girls, youre so clever and since I dont pound eyelets this look will work great for me! Ive done the same procedure with frames for a cut out using the Coluzzle or circle cutter but this never crossed my mind. Thanks!

This is a great idea too! I'll do this instead of buying them today, I saw this post just in time. Thanks for the idea!

Or one could use Crystal Effects for more pop!!!

stampinani 06-21-2005 07:03 PM

Ahh! So Young-Yet so Wise Grasshopper!!

Cool Trick!

love the samples!

needsmorestamps! 06-23-2005 05:46 PM

I tried this today and it's SUPER COOL!!! I don't think that I'll ever buy colored eyelets again, not when I can make one that perfectly matches the cardstock I'm using!!! I might have to break down and keep buying eyelets in metal colors but that's it :)

Has anyone tried putting the CE on them yet?

P.S. - Here's the card I made today using "faux eyelets"

http://gallery.splitcoaststampers.co...cat=500&page=1

Joan B 06-28-2005 02:52 AM

You can make them with glossy paper that's been colored first. They are a little stiffer and really work well.

purplewinkle 06-28-2005 04:35 AM

You can also use the little square punch. It looks pretty cool with a circle in the middle.

I want to try the silver metallic paper too.

how about the glue dots? would those work?

purplewinkle 06-28-2005 08:16 PM

I have used mono and it works fine. Just put it on the back of the "eyelet" and put it where you want it.

ps_1972 08-16-2006 09:42 AM

faux eyelets

Bless you! I never had an eyelet turn out right, so I had given up trying to use them. This works so great! Thanks!!
