Matboard Journal Instructions
Hi,
I'm trying to make one of these, but my matboard is a yucky colour :? , and I'll have to cover it. Would cardstock be too thick? I don't have much Designer paper...
Thanks!
Karen.
Karen, You can cover with cardstock...it is just more difficult due to the thickness but that is what I have used to cover composition books and it works just fine!!!
If the color of the mat board is not too dark, you can sponge ink on it to make it a different color. I've been doing that to the spine of my journals so that it's a solid color that looks textured and coordinates with the rest of my journal.
I tried to cover the spine with CS, but it didn't work out too well. What I have done is make my own designer paper by using printer paper and stamping on that and using it to cover my journal. It's lightweight enough that it covers nicely.

Matboard Journals
Thanks for the replies!
I was wondering about the cardstock when you cover the journal- do you just cut to the edge of the matboard, or try to fold it over, so that you can mitre the corners, and put a smaller square on the inside cover to hide the edges? (Hopefully, that made sense...) This is my first attempt at one of these, but my 21yo is always buying them for her notes and lists, so I'd love to make her one for Christmas!
BTW, Keri, did you have a boy or a girl?
I just cut to the edge of the matboard and covered...and if it is a dark color then I just colored the edges with a marker... works just fine.
oh and I had an adoreable baby boy! july 21st...Coleton Marshall

What a great idea! I never thought about the trick with the marker. That will make it a whole lot easier. My matboard is a grey/brown colour- ick! I'm off to try it!
A boy! Bet he's a cutie. Don't know where you find time to stamp. I'm impressed!
