I tried the etching techique & I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong. All I get is a circle (the area I etched) of white milky look. I can barely see the image I stamped. I think I expected to see just the image & not all that milky look around the image. Also, does anyone know where to get microscope slides? I tried all the hobby stores, the toy stores & the medical supply store with no luck. I did find them on the web, but I don't need 100 slides.
Did you emboss your image then etch around it? The etching cream is going to etch whatever it touches, so if you are putting the cream around your image, then the area around your image is what will be etched. Are the images you are using "line images" or "bulky" images? The line images are harder to see than the bulky ones.
Thanks for the message on where to get slides.
Also, thanks for the etching advise. I followed the instructions from a couple of weeks age on Splitcoast. I stamped with versamark, then put the cream right over that. Maybe I was supposed to emboss first.
I've fallen in love with the etching. My first one had all the mistakes on it. First of all, I changed to craft white instead of VersaMark, you can see if the image is smeared or not. Emboss with a colored embossing powder, I just used orange & I could easily see when it was heat set.
As for the slides, Have you tried 'Toy R Us"? Walmart?

Yes you have to emboss it & then it will turn out great! Remember the cream can be reused too! Have fun. I love the look of this.
Along this same line (I posted the question a few days ago and got not answers); can you put your glassware in an oven and have it "cook" rather than using a heat gun? If so, how long and what temperature? Thanks.
I checked the instructions & I did miss the part about embossing. I will be trying it again. Thanks to those who relpied. Also, I did try Toys-R-Us. They didn't have any. I have found them in bulk on the web, and I went to the other web site from this reply, to find 5 for $1.99. Either way, I have all my answers. Thanks all.
I'm trying my first glass block and was having trouble getting the embossing done. I was using the Versamark and clear EP and I can't see if/when the image is embossed. I like the idea of using the white craft ink and a colored powder. After you have etched the glass and taken off the embossed image, does the ink come up with the embossing or do you have to clean off the ink somehow? I'm a little confused about that. I would think that the ink would come off with the embossing, but I'm not sure. Thanks for the help.
