Envelopes

I acquired a huge box of discarded (red) envelopes from the lady who restocks cards at our local Dollar Tree store. I want to use the envelopes themselves to MAKE cards by folding them , etc. But I need some ideas. I do not want to MAKE envelopes, I want to USE them! Any ideas?

I made boxes out of envelopes but not cards. I am interested so will keep an eye on this thread.

I would be interested in how you did this, as well. But still looking for cards made from envelopes. Thank you very much.

I think I would trim all around the envelopes just barely cutting off the folds and use the plain side just like you would any other red paper. Would make a great first layer on Christmas cards.

You can make the cutest book from envelopes! Just search YouTube -- there are a bunch of videos like this one:

Thanks for that. I had thought I could do that and have beautiful red paper. I make Christmas cards for the military men whose addresses are published in our local newspaper every December. I thought it would be fun to use these envelopes and make pockets and tuck in little punched out trees, bells, etc. Thank you for your speedy reply. You guys are GREAT!

Mini books and pocket journals were my first thoughts as well. Congrats on the score of "freebies".

I had forgot about the mini albums. I made two from envelopes. They need to be colored inside and out to make pretty ones. They came out good and my teenage granddaughters loved them.

Carol Duval made boxes out of envelopes. I saw it years ago and thought I might try it. You stuff envelops with cardboard of varying thickness and cut a square hole in each, but 2, you leave uncut. Ink edges, glue and stack matching the holes and the cover the inside. Then glue uncut envelope to the bottom and make a paper hinge and glue the last uncut envelope to top.

Oh gosh - I was so busy in the run-up to Christmas that I missed this first time round!
If the OP is still watching the thread, here's a great tutorial: Splitcoaststampers - Crimped Envelope Pocket Card Project Tutorial by Theresa Momber
But I think I have a dud crimper, the results I get never seem to look as good as other people's do.

Thanks so much. I LOVED the tutorials!

envelopes

I use envelopes for gift cards. Fold in half. Cut the flap down the middle. glue one side down. cover the front with other cardstock and decorate. close by tieing a ribbon around.

How to Use Envelopes

I've done several posts on how to use envelopes:

Envelope Gift Bags
Envelope Basket
Mini Gift Bags
Bunny Bagalope

And I've seen ideas for making albums, gift card holders, and other thing with envelopes.

Sabrina (Cook 22) - thank you so much for the reference to the tutorial on the crimped pocket card. I was making the sour cream containers as spring/Easter favors and used the crimper for the top and bottom seals. Now I have a new idea for the many envelopes I have accumulated and made, not to mention my stash of stamps. I will need to watch my alignment so my crimps are straight (a true weakness of mine)! Another idea is to seal the envelope then cut off one of the ends and then decorate the plain (solid) side of the envelope. You now have an attachable tag holder for your card, an especially great way to "add something extra" to the inside flap of a card but can look just as wonderful on the front of a card.

I can always use this idea! Thanks for sharing.

Thanks. My Grandkids are always looking for something different Grandma made for their package!

Me, too. My crimper is sooooo tight that it is hard to get paper into it much less roll it through STRAIGHT!
