I received a comment about this technique from Linda and thought I share it with everyone:
Intaglio images can be made from a variety of materials. Carve into a foam block, heat stamp on a foam sheet, carve into a "meat" or produce tray (one that is new and hasn't been used yet).
Here is the Encyloedia Brittanica definition for an answer Beate gave for a question on the Intaglio technique:
"Intaglio:Engraved or incised work on gemstones, glass, ceramics, stone, or similar material in which the design is sunk beneath the surface, the opposite of cameo and relief."
THIS IS THE REVERSE OF EMBOSSING ALSO CALLED DE-BOSSING OR INTAGLIO. Most easily achieved using a wizard, with Nestabilities dies and the embossing mats. set up to impress the design INTO the card.
or using a light box and work on the front of the card over a stencil to INDENT the image.
I was tidying away a pack of Polyshrink earlier and noticed it listed intaglio as one thing to use it for. The plastic is pretty pliable when hot so I guess a Versamarked stamp pressed into it would produce an impression and the Versamark would act as a release agent once the plastic is cold.
