Default embossing with colors

Hi Ladies! This might be a repeat issue but I'm curious what you all think and you can see I am brand new to this group.

Embossing with colors...do you use colored embossing pwder with an embossing ink or do you use clear powder over a colored ink? Does that make sense?

I'd love to hear your input. I've only been a SU! demo for less than a year so I'm still trying to iron out the kinks!

Thanks!
Brandi

Either way--it depends on what color you're going for!

I usually use Versamark with colored EPs.

With clear EP, any pigment/craft ink you use will show thru!

Play!

Hi Ladies! Thanks for the input. I son't have any craft inks so I guess i"m opting for the colored EP.

Thanks!

I just found out in another post that you can use Versa Mark and your classic inks with clear EP. I tried it with great results. You just ink your stamp with Versa Mark, then with the color you want, stamp your image and emboss with clear EP. A very cost effective way to emboss in all 48 colors! Just make sure to clean your stamp before stamping in the Versa Mark the next time.
If I'd known that a while ago, I could have saved a bunch of money....I just bought three Embossing Stacks!
I love this site! It seems that I learn something new every day!

Hey Brandi!!!
Just thought I would look your post up! I am going to have to try Happy Hearts way!! That would be much cheaper than buying all the craft inks or the embossing options!!

is it ok that the versamark gets on the colored pad? do you have to wipe it afterward?

The Versa Mark doesn't seem to affect the colored pad at all. Mine are all still fine.

thanks, now i have to try this!!!

i think i've seen others do this too, you stamp w/ your dye ink, then you ink w/ versamark and stamp on top of that. emboss w/ clear ep. the only problem w/ that is trying to stamp exactly over the 1st image.

In order to get the images exactly lined up use a stamp positioner (stamp a ma jig). This is an awesome tool!!!

Does anyone know what the difference is in the final appearance using the following techniques:
1. versamark and colored ep
2. colored craft ink and clear ep
3. versamark, classic ink, and clear ep

I'd sure love to know, especially if there's no difference at all.

Thanks,

Michelle Y

when you use colored ep, (gold) you can tell that the whole raised part of the embossed image is gold.

when you use pigment ink and clear ep. if you look closely, you can tell that the ink is on the paper, and that the raised part is actually clear. but that's only if you really look at it, if you didn't know, you probably wouldn't know the difference.

the 3rd way i haven't tried.
