Drywall mesh

The kind you buy at Lowe's or Home Depot.

Does it have a self-adhesive on the back like the magic mesh they sell in the SU book? And has anyone tried coloring it with a brayer? If not maybe I will experiment and let ya'll know.

I like this stuff but seems a little TOO pricey from SU.

drywall mesh

yes the drywall mesh is self-adhesive and can be colored with ink pads, brayers and permanent markers. Have fun with it.

I sponge color on mine cause I like the soft subtle look, but then again didn't get a brayer yet.. always something that is higher up on my wish list!! Oh well... soon, very soon will get one! :D

Thank ya'll.
Going to Lowes later.

I have noticed that the weave of the Magic Mesh I got from SU (more for the package than anything) to show customers is more evenly woven than the drywall tape that I got at Home Depot. Some of the threads "wander" in their lane in my drywall tape. Probably no one but me would notice it on a card or page though.

wright1 07-20-2004 01:48 PM

Hmmm, I will have to take a look at the weave.

Well I got the mesh from Lowe's but I can't color it. It won't take the color. I tried sponging and brayering...Nothing. :(

Do ya'll buy a certain brand? The package did say something about fiberglass weaves, could that be it? My hb said that all the other ones they had at Lowe's mentioned fiberglass.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

TIA

I got mine at Wal Mart. I've colored it lots of times, however I've only done it with Staz-On or metallic rub-ons. I'm not sure if other inks would work they same, haven't tried them yet. I haven't had any problems with the Staz-On. I just get the inkpad and rub it right across the mesh. I've used it lots of times and some people haven't been able to tell that it's not magic mesh.

I have never used the magic mesh or the drywall tape....can someone please tell me what they cost??? TIA

wright1 07-20-2004 03:23 PM

I saw the ones they had at Wal-Mart but it looks like the same thing I got from Lowes.

I tried sharpies on the mesh and that DID work. Maybe it has to be something permanent.

Mamacows: I got a 50 ft. roll of white mesh from Lowes for 3.38. It does have a self-adhesive on the back and I just discovered you can color it with sharpie markers.

Difference: SU is 2 1/2 inch wide and 1 yard.
Lowes is 2 inches wide and 50 ft.

My drywall tape cost me $5 Canadian for a monster big roll....like the size of a roll of duct tape!

Haven't tried coloring it yet. Now I'm going to have to try!

HTH!

I don't have the package of the tape I got from HD anymore, but I've had no problems brayering classic ink onto it. I had a couple of cards, but I've sent them out I think. I've been really lazy lately and haven't been taking pictures before sending them.

I had no problems with my dry wall mesh, I tried the metallics as well as sponging and breying the classic ink and took it well, it looks wonderfull on my cards but is it safe for scrapbooks? I will like to know if any of you know

I seem to recall quite a few people on a forum some months back saying that dry wall tape wasn't scrapbook safe. Although I don't know absolutely for sure, I wouldn't chance it. I think it is very unlikely they use an acid-free adhesive in on that. But it is great for cards.

Dry Wall Tape

I use Wal-mart dry wall tape and just yesterday I colored it black with a Versamark pad and black EP. It worked beutifully and the white does not show through, so this makes me think you could use any EP to color it. I have not tried sponging or sponge brayer with it.

Would seem to me, altho I haven't experimented with either MM or DT, that if the DT is made of fiberglass, then it is, in all likelihood, a surface that would repell most "non-permanent" coloring mediums.

What is MM made of?

I bought some MM, but for some reason, it never "speaks" to me to play with it. I think it has to do with it being such a perfect grid pattern? I seem to be drawn more to coastal mesh and sinamay paper that has a more uneven pattern/mesh to it ...

Of course, I am weird that way.

Drywall tape

I have used the drywall tape quite a bit. I have spray painted it with silver for use as a silver screen in a door. It took the spray paint well and it stayed on and looks great.

One of my friends spray paints dry wall tape to make mesh...she says she called the tape and spray paint companies and they are okay for scrapbooks....I'm a little concerned about using it in my scrapbooks...but have used her mesh on cards...it looks great!!!
