Dryer sheets
 

Is anyone still awake out there who can help me out here? I want to try
the dryer sheet thing but I really can't remember the whole thing. I'm
pretty sure I'm supposed to press them smooth first. I'm guessing use
a not-too-hot iron with a pressing cloth. Then use spray mount on the
card, lay the dryer sheet down, smooth it out & trim the edges. Have
I got this right? Oh yeah, steam or no steam with the pressing? Thanks
in advance!

I have not tried the ironing bit but I have dyed them and put behind a cut out square with stamping on it..used like you would Mulberry paper..you can tear it or cut it. I put a bit of acrylic paint in some water, swished about six used dryer sheets in and let dry.

I found this you may want to try:

Dryer Sheet technique-Stamp a piece of white CS with some bright colored images (flowers are great). Be sure to fill it in with various
colors. Then spray this sheet with a spray adhesive. Put the dryer
sheet over the top the result is stunning. Your Stamped
Image will be muted, shimmery and lightly flocked all at
once. This man who showed it then cut that CS into 9
pieces and adhered the pieces 1/8 inch apart (like the
serendipity technique) over black CS. It makes for a
stunning effect.
Then of course you can layer a saying or even another image
on other CS over that.
Also, put dryer sheets in a plastic bag with a couple of drops of reinker and swish around until you have the color you want, let dry and use as mulberry paper

I did this for a Christmas card before.

I stamped my image in a darker color and then run it through my xyron machine. Next I flattened a used dryer sheet out over the sticky side. Last I rubbed glitter over the whole shebang! Tap off excess. Some of he glitter will stick through the holes of the dryer sheet.
It looked pretty. I used the deer stamp from Beautiful Season and it looked like it was glistening snow.

So I figured out to use a pretty hot iron w/steam & a pressing cloth to
smooth out those puppies & then did the spray mount thing. I did it over
a pretty in pink layer of cs stamped in chocolate (ummmmm!) chip w/the
Antique Lace BG stamp w/the heart from Gentler Times stamped in choco-
late chip on pretty in pink cs again, w/close to cocoa layer inbetween (is
that a word?). Both of those layers were trimmed to the heart shape &
pop-dotted up. Narrow mauvy (it could be a word) satin ribbon to finish
it off. OOOOPS! sorry about the book I just wrote.

Your Christmas card sounds really pretty. I like to see glitter on OTHER
people's cards but had a few glitter disasters when my kids were small,
so I'm ascared of it.

One more thing...did I dream this one up or do I remember seeing
somebody say they brayered the darn things w/ink before putting
them over the cardstock? Just ordered the brayer today (just checked
order status between posts & it ALREADY SHPD! WOO HOO!) so I
might just have to run that idea up the flagpole & see if it flies.

I really like reading about this, and Lord knows I have TONS of dryer sheets on my laundry floor : ), is there any pictures of this technique on the site to see the results?

Look in Beate's gallery. She did her Christmas cards with the dryer sheets
and I wouldn't be surprised if there are a few more samples there. Sorry

Under Gallery search "dryer sheet" and you will get all kinds of examples. I did one with the Bundle Up set and it made the sweaters and caps look fuzzy. I love the dryer sheet technique! It stumped some "seasoned" stampers when I sent them one! I am new at this so was thrilled when I stumped some experts and more experienced stampers!

Thanks Tracy! I'll have to check those out. And your card sounds like it's
really cute! Now I suppose I better do a few more loads of laundry, huh?
There is that down side.

Oh, what a neat idea-using them as mulberry paper-I only used it on top of a brayered background that was stamped with an image. Great idea
