Default Dry Embossing

Hi there,
I have a hostess club meeting next week and the hostess chose dry embossing. I have 2 templates: Squares & Minis and Border Builders.

I would love to see some samples with either of those and would love any suggestions.

Also, I have found it just as easy to do dry embossing without the light table (althought I will show them with also) and I think I like the cheap stylus better than the Empressor stylus. I've also never used the wax paper first as suggested- does anyone find that makes a big difference?

Any other suggestions for "wow"ing, etc. would be great!

TIA,
Kim Greenstein

I think the the wax paper does make a big difference... the stylus really glides along more smoothly. Try it both ways and see what you think. Another option (although not the best for scrapbooking) is to run your finger over the area where you'll be embossing. The oils in your skin transfer to the cardstock and make the stylus glide along.

Embossing on vellum is a wower.

Anita

Default dry embosssing

I think the Empressor does a better job on the more open stencils, like the buttefly one. It doesn't break the paper as easily. Plus it's much easier on your hands, especially the new version with the rubber grips; I've got the old all metal version and I'm considering upgrading.

In addition, I was poking around the Dick Blick catalog and found that our light box, which is a Port A Trace, is an incredible bargain. Dick Blick lists them for much more than we do! A similar lightbox without the foot that makes it tilt that our box has is around $70 or $80, so ours is a real deal at 49.95.

Default Dry Embossing on colored card stock

Can someone explain how to do dry embossing on the colored cardstock? I have it in my notes from Regionals, but frankly, it makes no sense! Can't remember what they actually demonstrated that day! Appreciate any help!

Default dry embossing

If I remember right, they lightly moved (scribbled) the stylus back and forth to get a slight imprint of where the stencil was. Then you can trace over it more accurately.

Hi Kim!

Go into the gallery, under "search" type dry emboss. This will bring up all kinds of dry embossed cards and maybe you can get an idea! Someone from this wonderful site passed this tip onto me and I use it frequently. Happy Stamping!

Thanks Kim for the information - I had that in my notes, but somehow it just didn't seem to work - I'll try again. I had checked here on the dry embossing examples, but while I saw examples in color I didn't see how to actually do them! Thanks for the help from both of you!

I have used the squares and minis template to make simple but beautiful cards. Use stylus to emboss all of the lines on the template onto US white CS. Use one of the 6 images and emboss it in the center of all 6 squares. Turn over to side where your image is raised. Place the template over one of the images and color it with chalk. The template makes a perfect frame for your chalk and the effect is very elegant!
