I admire those cards that have elaborate (read, like Spellbinders) frames for their sides, top and bottom, on both front and back. I know it involves cutting the die twice and hingeing it somehow.
Could anyone give me a step-by-step? I'd sure appreciate it: I love the look and have a nice collection of a few dies now.
We have an onsite tutorial here:Shaped Card Tutorial - Splitcoaststampers. I like to cut an extra panel with the full label shape and use that for the card front; it will just stick up a tiny bit above the fold but means you have the entire shape, whereas you lose a little of it when die-cutting on the fold. I see that's mentioned in the tutorial, but I often see circle cards where people haven't added the full circle front.
Tina, thanks so much for asking this question!
I don't know if I've ever seen a card like that and I couldn't figure out how it was done until I watched the video. I plan to make one very soon!
Mellisa59.Thanks so much for your positive feedback. I think I will keep researching this topic, as I'm sure there are many ways to achieve a nice folded, intricate card with these cool dies. Melissa, are you also a birdwatcher here in my neck of the woods, So. Cal?

(Your location blurb mentions trees and birds in a softly area in Sunny SoCal.)

I just have to say: WoW! at how nice a few of you have been to respond to my "Fancy Die-Cut Frames" on a card query.
I love the level of communication here: Can I just give a shout out to this wonderful Split-Coast-Stampers site? I am new here, and feel that I have the "world on a string," to quote an old jazz music standard.
In time, I hope to help other newcomers with my newly acquired knowledge.

No, not a birdwatcher. Though I do love looking at the little sparrows that sit on the fence outside my bedroom window and nest in my trees. They used to nest under the eaves in front of my kitchen window until the house was painted. Then the pigeons moved in and made a nest. Interesting birds, but messy. We removed the pigeon nest last month and hope the sparrows will return in the spring. (fingers crossed)
BTW, I'm up the 215 freeway not far from March Air Reserve Base, about a 90-minute drive from San Diego.

I've seen crafters do this by cutting 2 of a die, then scoring the 2nd one horizontally about an inch or less down from the top. You then marry the 2 die cuts on top of each other and glue that top area together. From the front it looks like just the single smooth die cut and from the back you see an easel effect just a bit down from the top.
Thanks for your kind response to my question on hinged cards.
Carol, you rock!!
Thanks so much! I appreciate your tute on the hinged cards. I might try the one I have in my imagination right now!

Reason: adding more words, and Carol's name.
