I've just received my new chalk petal points, but not sure how to use them and wonder what all you clever gals are doing with them. I'm anxious to hear from you with your ideas. Thanks
I'm a new SU demo who bought ALL the Colorbox Chalk cats eyes a year ago - months before I went to my first SU workshop! I LOVE the chalk inks! I've used them for everyday stamping - they're ESPECIALLY great for shadow stamping (with shape stamps). The coverage is much more even than the Classic or Craft pads. They're the best pads!!
I love how the SU inks match the cardstock and in a few hours, after the man in brown pays a visit, I'll have ALL the SU Classic Inks. But I also love the Colorbox Chalks. I'm deliberating about whether to buy them in the PetalPoints form that SU sells, just so I can demo them. Or I could demo the cats eyes (I have all the colors, so I could pull out just the ones that SU sells).
Anyway, play around with them and use them for everything and see how you like them - I think you'll LOVE them!
We just painted our bedroom and I had a hunter green lamp that no longer matched the room. It didn't owe me anything so I thought I'd try to re-decorate it! I rubbed the olive chalk pad on the base so some of the hunter showed through. I love how the chalk ink softened it. Then I stamped a border on the top and bottom in gold ink. I took the oatmeal-colored shade and sponged Old Olive, Mellow Moss and Baroque Burgandy all over it. I stamped the same borders in gold on the shade. I kind of like how it turned out!

I just used mine for the first time at a demo this weekend (dangerous, I know), and they loved them! I used them with the small plaid maker and loved how out they made the plaid come out with a softer look. They match our color cardstock very well too. I definitely will be using these a lot!

Can you emboss with them?
On regular cs, about how long does it take to dry (with no heat setting)
Are they more fade-resistant than classic inks in scrapbooks? TIA if you know.

Will someone please tell me if these are stamp pads or chalks? I'm a new demo and had someone ask me this over the weekend and I told them I'd check it out and get back to them.
tia,

When you used them with the plaid maker, did you use the brayer or did you use them directly on the maker? I guess that is my question about them anyway........do you use them dtp or stamp into them?
the only ones that i have seen at m's or j's are petal point pigment inks...i don't believe these are the same. correct me if i am wrong. camsmom, i think i read somewhere else on scs that if you are fast you can emboss with them. i love the idea with the plaid maker, i'll have to try that
Thus far I have not seen the petal point chalks at Michaels or Joannes....but you might be able to find it a a speciality store. This is a special selection of colors for SU, so any you buy at the store will be different than ours. I was at a speciality store the other day, looking for a 3/4 inch circle punch and was looking through a catalog they had...they sold the petal point chalks for $16 in their book...so the SU one is a good deal. Plus it has our colors.
As for using it, I just purchased one last week from my demo and love it! I have the brights/subtles one, and thus far have just stamped with it. Made some cute party invitations for my son's birthday. I love how the color is so vibrant, and even....now I have to get the regals/earth elements one!
Yes each individual pie shape lifts out for use. Just like the pigment ink petal points. You will not find the Stampin'Up petal points in any other store as the color combo is exclusive to SU. There are Chalk Petal points on the market usually at Specialty stores but not with the same combos as the SU ones. You can use the Petal points for Direct to Paper technique and for inking a stamp and they are especially great for shadow stamping. HTH
I have both sets and bought them specifically for their archival quality.
They dry very quickly; in fact, too quickly for embossing (unless I'm missing something.) Easily in under a minute on all the papers I've tried thus far--don't know about glossy paper.
They are fade and water resistant--that's great news for scrapbookers. (stamped and ran the paper under water--absolutely no running or fading)
They're more opaque than the classic inks so seem more vibrant on paper. The petal pads slide out of the base so it makes inking up stamps like petal points with multiple colors easy without having to mask. HTH
another little tip you can use a back ground stamp of some kind, or like a long rectangle stamp different colors light or dark in a stack down the center of your cardstock then take a flower petal point the stem green and your flower your favorite color and stamp over the multi color stack
THEY LAYER PRETTY DARN TRUE TO COLOR!!!!! cool effect
