Difference between Dye and Pigment based inks
 

I have both dye based and pigment based ink pads.

Whats the difference between them? I know the sponge and cloth base difference.

I wanted to know the difference in its usage. What to use when?

I tend to pull out my dye ink from force of habit, but I really think that pigment ink is much more versatile and vibrant.

Dye inks can only be used on surfaces like paper that absorb the ink. Pigment inks are sticky and can stick to surfaces like glass (but can also be used on paper) but need to be heat set and/or embossed.

There are also hybrid inks like Palette that I think are the best. They are similar to dye inks that they dry right away but can be used on non-porous surfaces like glass and are permanent on things fabric.
