Can anyone tell me, or point me in the right direction, on how to make little books out of the chipboard coasters you get at restaurants? I have a few and would love to make a small scrapbook with them.
Thanks in advance!
I have one in my gallery. It's not made the same way though, I use rings to keep it together. I couldn't quite get the accordian thing right. ;) I like the rings though, makes it easier to add pages if I want.
Holy cow, Krista! I wasn't expecting a reply so quickly!!
I checked out your mini scrapbook gallery and they are wonderful. Love the ring idea, too. Also, thanks for the link to the tutorial. I looked for it but couldn't find it on the resources page. Must have overlooked it.
I did the one in the tutorial, to hard and to many things to do. i just did the coasters, and then did an accordian book and glued the covers on.
worked fine and much easier.
I don't have a link or anything, but here are some basic directions for the accordian fold style coaster books.
I start by cutting 4 pieces of designer card stock to cover my coasters (2 for the outside of the covers and 2 coordinating for the inside of the coasters). Since my coasters are 4" x 4" I cut at this dimension then use the small corner rounder to get the corners to match up.
For the inside of the book: using 12" x 12" cardstock, cut 2 pieces that are 3 1/2" x 10 1/2", and score them at 3 1/2" and 7". You'll end up with a two separate 10 1/2" long pieces of cardstock that looks like they have 3 equal sized squares scored into each of them. Now, we want to make them into one 17" long piece of cardstock, so glue the two pieces together by overlapping one of the end squares from one piece onto an end square from the other piece. This makes the accordian of your book. At this point I go ahead and do my accordian fold so I can see how to glue the coasters to the cardstock without messing up my fold afterward (as I have done before...lol).
All that is left is to glue the covers on, and stamp, embellish, and add photos. They really do turn out nicely, and after you make your first one, they go quickly.
Hope this helps and wasn't too confusing!
